CHIEF PHYSICIAN SPECIALIST Date: March 16, 2021 FLSA Status: Exempt Location: Pine Bluff, AR Posting End Date: March 22, 2021 Salary Commensurate with qualification and experience SUMMARY
The Chief Physician Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and helping to prevent diseases and injuries that commonly occur in the general population. This position is governed by state and federal laws. FUNCTIONS
Directs and coordinates work activities with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, students, assistants, and other health care providers. Explains procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients, monitors conditions and progress, and re-evaluates treatments as necessary. Provides supervision of subordinates, by prioritizing work assignments, establishing deadlines, providing general instructions, and reviewing the work performed, to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with instructions or established policies and procedures. Advises patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention and collects, records, and maintains patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results. Plans, implements, or administers health programs or standards within the institution or community for information and prevention of treatment of injury or illness. Prepares reports for workforce evaluations, or medical status of individuals. Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury and refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern medicine. Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body and the practices relating to the care and treatment of patients. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of characteristics of people with developmental disabilities. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to establish and maintain the physician/patient relationship. Ability to diagnose and treat patients. Ability to prepare reports and maintain files. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The formal education equivalent of medical degree approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and successful completion of the internship or residency postgraduate requirements; plus nine years of progressively more responsible experience in the medical field, including five years in a professional managerial capacity.
