RESIDENCY APPLICATION ADVISING TIMELINE FOR 2019 - 2020

April - June Apr. 1st: Schedule USMLE Step 2 CS Exam EARLY (ideally before October 31st)!

Meeting with Specialty Advisor • Review the Specialty Advising sheets posted on the website • Arrange individual meeting with your Specialty Advisor to discuss specialty choice and fourth year schedule, including arranging your AIs • First meeting in April; continue to check in.

Register your ERAS Token • Letter of Recommendation Portal available

Schedule the AI in your specialty choice during the months of June, July, and August.

May Have a draft of your CV complete by May (examples available on resource page). You will use it in September (unless you need it sooner for VSAS). Should be compete and ready by the end of June.

June Work on your personal statement. Complete your CV.

Have your Step 2 Exam complete before July if possible.

Between Summer 2019 – December 20th: The AUA Registration Opens ().

Early summer: Start filling out your Military Match packet and ranking the military residencies of your choice. If you wish to attend a civilian , rank that first.

June 3rd: SF Match Registration Opens for

June 6th: ERAS Season Opens. Start filling out ERAS Application.

June 30th: Deadline for taking USMLE Step 2 Exams for December Graduation.

June 30th: Deadline to send in Noteworthy Characteristics for MSPE.

June 30th: Deadline to review third-year clerkship grade reports for accuracy for inclusion in your MSPE.

June 30th: Deadline to submit Letters of Distinction to be included in your MSPE.

July Continue to meet with your Specialty Advisor to finalize specialty choice, develop an application strategy, and discuss program selection.

Request LoRs: provide letter writers with CV, personal statement, other requested information. Letters should be uploaded by letter writer before September 15th.

Mid-July: Complete transcript review and correct errors for ERAS Application.

June - August Schedule a personal statement and CV review with OME advisor, Woubejig.

Review and finalize your personal statement with your Specialty Advisor's input (can be done over email).

Exact date TBD (mid-August): SF Match Registration Opens for Plastic Surgery

August 17th: Last day to take Step CK in order to have scores available when NRMP registration begins.

September Applicants start applying to ACGME accredited residency programs.

Exact date TBD: Military application submission closes.

September 4th: Submit Ophthalmology SF Match Application.

September 6th: Have complete 4th year schedule in eFlight for FYOC Review.

September 15th: Submit your ERAS application. ACGME accredited residency programs start receiving applications.

September 15th: Confirm that letter writers have uploaded LoRs

September 15th: Register for the NRMP and log back into ERAS to enter NRMP ID.

October October 1st: MSPEs are released to ACGME accredited residency programs

Deadline for providing results for Step 2 of your USMLE to the Military Match.

November November 2nd: Recommended date for completing Step 2 CK and CS

Exact date TBD (mid-November): Submit Plastic Surgery SF Match Application.

November 30th: Last day to register for NRMP without paying a late fee.

November - January Schedule time for your interview season, approximately 1 month in November / December / or January, depending on your specialty and advice from your Specialty Advisor. Schedule a less demanding rotation for the other months. For example, if you scheduled the month of December off for interviewing, schedule more flexible rotations for November and January. Review interview offers with your Specialty Advisor to make sure you are interviewing at the right number of programs.

November 13th – January 2nd: Submit AUA Preference List (Urology).

December Military match results available. If you match to a military residency, you must withdraw from the civilian match process and cancel any interviews you have set up at civilian institutions.

December 31st: Deadline to take USMLE Step 2 CS/CK exams for June graduation.

January January 7th: Submit Ophthalmology SF Match Rank list.

January 14th: Ophthalmology SF Match results available to programs, applicants, and Medical Schools.

January 17th: AUA Match results are sent to Urology programs, applicants, and Medical Schools.

January 17th: NRMP Deadline: If you match with a Urology program, check to see if you must go through the formality of the NRMP Match for surgery training at the same institution. If appropriate, submit your ranking list to the NRMP with the code provided.

Exact date TBD: You can begin to enter Rank Order List on the NRMP website. Rank programs in order of their TRUE PREFERENCE, not where you think you will match. Review your rank list with your Specialty Advisor.

February Feb. 7th: No changes or revisions to fourth year schedule. Graduation checks in progress.

Exact date TBD: Rank order List Certification deadline with the NRMP.

March March 16th: Match Week Begins • 8:00 a.m. PT: Applicants find out if they have matched. SOAP begins.

March 20th: Match Day!!!

May Exact date TBD (1st week of May): Submit Plastic Surgery SF Match Rank list.

Exact date TBD (2nd week of May): Plastic Surgery SF Match results available to applicants, programs, and Medical Schools.
