IT WILL BE CHAOS (October 8)

A personal look at the human consequences of the refugee crisis spanning the Mediterranean, as told through the stories of asylum seekers, as well as the Italian locals who cope with the influx of newcomers. The documentary highlights the story of Aregai, an Eritrean man fleeing repression and deprivation, and the journey of a Syrian mother and father, Wael and Doha, who lead their family in a perilous Mediterranean crossing. Aregai survives a horrific shipwreck only to become ensnared in Italy’s faltering immigration system. Elsewhere, Wael and Doha navigate the long trek from Turkey to Germany with their four young children. Stirring and complex, IT WILL BE CHAOS is a harrowing look at what refugees go through when forced to escape war and terror at home.

BRILLO BOX (October 15)

In 1969, Lisanne Skyler’s parents bought an Andy “Brillo Box (3¢ Off)” sculpture for $1,000. A replica of a shipping carton for Brillo soap pads, Warhol’s Brillo Boxes were at first dismissed by the art world. But 40 years later, with Warhol’s reputation as a contemporary-art visionary long secured, the same piece sold for more than $3 million at a record-breaking Christie’s auction. Blending a humorous family narrative with Pop Art history, BRILLO BOX follows this iconic work as it makes its way from a New York family’s living room to the contemporary global art market, exploring the ephemeral nature of art and value, and the decisions that shape a family’s history.

A DANGEROUS SON (October 22)

One in 10 American children suffer from severe emotional disturbance, and more than 17 million have experienced a psychiatric disorder. A DANGEROUS SON focuses on three families in crisis, each struggling with a child’s severe mental illness while desperately seeking treatment in the face of limited resources and support; exposing cracks in a system that fails too many families, with potentially devastating consequences for the child and others.

STOLEN DAUGHTERS: KIDNAPPED BY THE BOKO HARAM (October 29)

In 2014, 276 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped from a school in Chibok, Northern Nigeria and hidden in the vast Sambisa forest for three years, by Boko Haram, a violent Islamic insurgent movement. A year ago, 82 were released. Stolen Daughters: Kidnapped by Boko Haram tells the story of the girls’ time in captivity and following their lives over the past year including their process of adaptation as they reintegrate into society.

JANE FONDA IN FIVE ACTS (November 5)

Jane Fonda has been vilified as “Hanoi Jane,” lusted after as “Barbarella” and heralded as a beacon of the women’s movement. This film goes to the heart of who she is, a blend of deep vulnerability, magnetism, naiveté, and bravery, revealing a life transformed over time. The documentary draws on 21 hours of interviews with Fonda, who speaks candidly and frankly about her life and her missteps. She explores the pain of her mother's suicide, her father’s emotional unavailability, 30 years of an eating disorder and three marriages to highly visible, yet diametrically opposed, men.

SWIPED: HOOKING UP IN THE DIGITAL AGE (November 12)

With more than 40 million Americans currently engaged in online dating, seeking hookups, relationships and love, meeting someone has never been easier. The options are endless — just turn on your phone. After New York Times bestselling author Nancy Jo Sales wrote the 2015 Vanity Fair piece “Tinder and the Dawn of the Dating Apocalypse,” she went deeper into the subject. In Swiped: Hooking Up in the Digital Age, she investigates the online dating industry’s impact on gender issues, examining how it has changed the way people date and mate and think about the apps on their phones, and exploring how the act of swiping affects the ability to find real and lasting connections.

THE OSLO DIARIES (November 19)

In 1992, with Israeli-Palestinian relations at an all-time low and any communication between the two sides punishable by jail time, a select group of Israelis and Palestinians gathered secretly in Oslo for a series of clandestine meetings that would dramatically change the political landscape of the Middle East. Chronicling their journey towards peace, The Oslo Diaries features rare, never-before-seen archival footage and diary entries of key negotiators on both sides, providing an inside look at the immense pressure faced by the architects of what came to be known as the Oslo Accords.
