Spanish Play

On Friday 21st April Year 7 to 11 students were privileged to watch a Spanish play to help improve their Spanish.

The play was extremely funny and also gave students an opportunity to participate as well. The two talented actors were amazing as they played a few different characters in the production.

I interviewed students afterwards and they all said how they enjoyed the informality of the play and the way that the actors interacted with the audience. In addition, they loved how the characters looked and the way they acted.

Overall, everyone had “lo pasé bomba” (a great time!).

I found the play very educational, the storyline was fun and it definitely helped me with my Spanish.

This was a strong round for our team who had been practising for weeks.

Following that was the crossnumber which some would say is a difficult round but not for these teams as the standard was very high.

The final round was the relay. The students put everything they had into solving the problems and running between the teacher and their other team.

It is always a great event for the spectators and there were plenty of teachers and parents there to enjoy this finale. After all the excitement the results were in. In joint third place was Guru Nanak and Queensmead, second place was St Helens and the winners this year were Haydon.

All the students there were really positive about how much they had enjoyed the event so I would like to say a big thank you to all who helped to make it happen.

This competition was however just a warm up. The Queensmead team then Easter School

On Tuesday 25th April, Year 9 Engineering classes went to Thorpe Park for an Engineering Workshop.

This was a reward for their excellent work in lessons and an opportunity to put the information they learned in theory in practice.

The workshop aimed to develop understanding and use of the properties of materials and performance of structural elements in design and building rides.

This led them to appreciate how diverse engineering can be, whilst taking into consideration the different structures, materials and physics required to make fast paced and exciting amusement rides possible.

After the workshop the students put their new knowledge to the test. They had the opportunity to see how fun engineering can be in the right environment. They appeared to have a much greater appreciation of force and stress coming off the ride Stealth after being accelerated from 0-80 mph in 1.9 seconds.

Well done to all the students for their effort in the workshop and bravery to try out the rides.

The guide explained the reservations of the Metropolitan Police, if they had waited until it had got light to photograph and then remove the graffiti it would have been seen by thousands of gentiles arriving to purchase from the Jewish stall holders.

Finally, we moved on to Mitre Square to discuss the murder of Catherine Eddowes and the only real clue. The bloodstained section of Catherine Eddowes apron

Miss Johnston Head Teacher Tate Britain Gallery Visit

Year 9 Art students attended the David Hockney exhibition on Tuesday 9th May.

Students had a fantastic time at the Tate Britain, with the opportunity to see first hand the large landscape paintings and portraiture art work by the renowned artist.

They learned about detailed colour theory at the gallery and painting techniques within landscape and portraiture.

The exhibition included a wide range of artworks by David Hockney throughout his entire artistic career.

Digital interactive photography demonstrating the colours in seasonal changes was also on display for students to visit which proved to be a great interest for all.

A student commented:

“It was such a good trip, I would definitely go again”

While the script was being written our leader took us to the dressing room where the star lights twinkled and the mirrors shone.

Back in Studio three it was time to film. Once the four parts of the report had been completed we sat in the communal room proud of the masterpiece that we had created.

It was certainly a memorable day and not one that I would forget. I was astonished by all the inspiring things we had seen and done.
