A Loving Legacy Auburn native Louise Feist Phillips and her husband Joseph had a whirl- wind romance in the spring of 1958 and married that summer. Over the course of their 57-year marriage they raised four children. One daughter, Sue Phillips Coe, has been a volun- teer at Matthew House for 12 years and is currently the Vice President of our Board of Directors. Louise was referred to Matthew House and welcomed in the spring of 2017. It was a match made in heaven. After only one night Louise com- mented that it was the first time she had slept in months and felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Louise Feist Phillips and family comforted by the “incredible gift” of Matthew House. During Louise’s stay at Matthew House her condition improved so NON PROFIT much that her family began to make ORGANIZATION plans for her to return home. Sue U.S. POSTAGE believes that her mother’s time at PAID Matthew House was “a gift, not only Auburn, NY 13021 for my mom, but for our whole PERMIT NO. 170 family, including her four grand- children, because of the exceptional love and care she received. It was an incredible gift.” Louise decided to leave a legacy and expressed to her children her desire to make a bequest to Matthew House through a provision in her will. Her family contacted their attorney and that change to her will was quickly and easily made. The families of residents who stay at Matthew House often express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers who make the house the amazing continued on page 11

A Loving Legacy Introducing Superstar Ali Ali began volunteering at Matthew House when she was just shy of 10 years old. Sue Phillips Coe, a board member and also Ali’s godmother, volunteers every week. Ali asked if she could volunteer too. Ali filled out a volunteer application and began coming in with Sue, one day a week after school. Ali immediately loved being at Matthew House.
