Full Year Training Fellowship through Portland Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (PCEFT)

About the Fellowship The Portland Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy is pleased to offer a fellowship opportunity for the second year. PCEFT is committed to taking Anti-Racist action and centering Black lives. (Link to PCEFT’s Resolute Committment to Anti-Racist Action.) Our goal is to train Black therapists, and therapists with various marginalized intersectional identities and/or therapists who work in underserved communities, or with clients/patients who would not otherwise have access to this type of care. We hope that doing so will increase awareness of the value of equity, inclusivity and justice in receiving access to this very effective therapy model.

The fellowship will provide: ● tuition for two Black therapists for the foundational EFT training – EFT Externship. Externship takes place over 4 consecutive days in Portland each fall in October or November. ● reduced tuition for 2-3 therapists who identify as Black or non Black folx of color, or folx who are part of the LGBTQIA+ and/or disability communities. ● partial tuition for the advanced EFT training series – Core Skills. Core Skills takes place over 5 different 2 day sessions spread throughout the winter and spring. ● meetings with trainer/supervisor and other fellows before and between trainings

Please see PCEFT website for dates and description of these trainings this year.

About PCEFT PCEFT is a community of therapists who practice Emotionally Focused Therapy. We embrace the Black Lives Matter Movement and are committed to equity, justice, inclusion and anti-racist ideals. We believe in the importance of promoting healthy relationships and connection. We provide therapy for individuals, couples, families and other key relationships, helping them to heal together. Our work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research based model that provides a map for healing and closeness. EFT was developed by Sue Johnson and as a way to address relational distress. We are indebted to Sue Johnson and ICEEFT for developing and growing this inspiring and effective way of healing relationships.

We provide training and support the growth of therapists in their work. EFT is an attachment model that acknowledges the idea that we are all built for connection, and that when we can’t get close to the people we need, we all struggle. Grounded in EFT, we offer training and supervision in a model that is based on three decades of research with proven outcomes and is full of heart. We provide a learning context that is supportive and caring, but also rigorous and powerful.

Eligibility The PCEFT fellowship will be awarded to a therapist who is currently actively working professionally with couples and/families. This therapist can be at any phase of their career. Pre- licensed professionals are welcome to apply. The fellowship will be awarded to Black therapists and therapists who come from or work with (preferably both!) folx who are traditionally underrepresented, including any intersections of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, LGBTQIA+ and ability, and who would like to expand their understanding of EFT and improve their work with couples/families. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated past clinical experience with underrepresented populations and who have an interest in fostering equity inclusion and justice within the communities of PCEFT and Portland.

The recipient of this award will be enrolled in the 2020 Portland EFT Externship, and the 2020- 2021 Core Skills series also taking place in Portland.
