SURVIVORS DJOKOVIC, CHARDY SET FOR SEMI; MURRAY, NISHIKORI MEET AGAIN

 DAY 6 PREVIEW: Having saved a combined nine match points to reach the semi-finals, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic (saved 2 MPs against Ernests Gulbis) faces unseeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy (saved 7 MPs against John Isner) for a place in the Rogers Cup final. Djokovic remains in contention for a record-equaling fifth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title the season (25th career), while Chardy is playing in his first ATP Masters 1000 semi-final. On the other side of the draw, No. 2 seed Andy Murray and No. 4 seed meet in their second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final of the season (also Madrid, Murray d. Nishikori). Both players beat former champions to reach the final four – Murray, winner here in 2009-’10, avenged his 2014 quarter-final defeat against defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, while Nishikori beat three-time former champ Rafael Nadal. It promises to be another busy day for Djokovic, who will also play in the doubles semi-finals with Janko Tipsarevic vs. Daniel Nestor and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Top seeds, Bob and Mike Bryan face two-time defending champions Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares, who have a 10-0 record together at Rogers Cup.

 BIG FOUR DOMINANCE: Two of the Big Four – Djokovic and Murray – are into the semi-finals. In 44 of the past 48 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (since Monte-Carlo 2010), one of the Big Four has claimed the title (exceptions: PLAYER 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 Soderling, Paris 2010; Ferrer, Novak Djokovic - 5 3 3 4 4 Paris 2011; Wawrinka, Monte-Carlo 2014; Tsonga, Toronto 2014).
