Gwersyllt Community Council in Wrexham used £81,829 of interest-free funding from Salix Finance to invest in energy efficient street lighting. This is how they did it. Project overview Gwersyllt Community Council used £81,829 of interest-free Salix funding to invest in the upgrade of their street lighting stock. The council upgraded over 492 outdated lanterns with more modern alternatives in a bid to reduce their annual energy usage and costs, whilst reducing their effect on the environment. The upgrades will significantly lower the council’s energy consumption, reducing its annual electricity usage by around 81,113 kWh, equating to almost 61% and saving approximately £10,000 a year on its energy bills and £200,000 in lifetime savings. “ The project to install LED lights was a great success due to the enabling loan from Salix and the expertise of our contractor. The loan process was straightforward and advice from Salix staff was timely and accurate. Above all, our Councillors are pleased that the project is delivering environmental benefits in our community in terms of reduced carbon emissions, lower energy usage and a reduction in our carbon footprint.” Councillor Arfon Jones, Chair of Gwersyllt Community Council Estimated savings* achieved by Gwersyllt Community Council Total Loan Value Annual £ Savings Annual CO2e Saved Project Payback £81,829 £10,000 31 tonnes 8 years For more information or to apply, please contact the Wales team on 0203 102 6900 or [email protected] *Calculated using emissions factors for carbon published by government in 2018. @SalixFinance WWW.SALIXFINANCE.CO.UK SOLVING ENERGY EFFICIENCY FINANCE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR Printed on FSC certified recycled paper recycled certified on FSC Printed Working with Salix Technical overview Well-Being of Future Benefits & the Generations Act future Over 492 outdated In Wales all public sector As one of the largest low-pressure sodium lanterns organisations must adhere community councils in have been replaced with highly to the Well-Being of Future Wrexham, Gwersyllt hopes to efficient LED luminaires.
