Professional Summary: Marcus has more than 30 years of experience advising clients on investing and operating businesses in Southeast Asia. He has been the Head of DFDL’s Indonesian Business Unit since September 2014 and works closely with DFDL’s associated firm in , Mataram Partners. Marcus’ first port of call in Asia was Jakarta where he was seconded by New York’s Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom to Ibu Muljadi’s law offices. Marcus went on to work in Thailand for more than 20 years with an interruption when he established the Yangon, Myanmar offices for Russin & Vecchi in 1996, the predecessor to DFDL’s Yangon office, 16 years ago. He became a partner in Russin & Vecchi’s Bangkok offices and subsequently joined Allen & Overy’s Bangkok offices as a partner during the Asian financial crisis with a group of colleagues having built a name as debt restructuring experts. After he left Allen & Overy Marcus successfully established and ran his own law firm for more than six years during which he built a significant real estate and corporate commercial practice with three offices in Thailand. He merged this practice with DFDL Thailand’s practice and became an equity partner of DFDL in January 2010. Marcus started his legal career in the United States after having obtained an LLM from Cornell Law School following his graduation from Law School at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In addition to being a member of the New York Bar, Marcus also qualified as a member of the Dutch Bar during his tenure at Clifford Chance’s Amsterdam and New York offices. Marcus worked as an associate in law firms in the United States for more than three years after he graduated from Cornell Law School.

Throughout his career Marcus has published articles on a broad range of subject matters, including M&A, project finance, real estate, joint ventures, syndicated lending, insolvency and FDI and has taught for more than 10 years as a special lecturer at Chulalongkorn University’s Law School and Mahidon University on contract law. He has been interviewed and quoted on numerous occasions by local and international publications (Bangkok Post and International Herald Tribune) on various legal matters.
