Christmas Parcels 2017—This year we have made some changes to allow all students to be part of the parcels and to help students see the commitment required to help those who need it in our community.

15th of December- Non-Uniform Day for all students – Students to bring in items for the parcels instead of the traditional monetary donation.

Year 7- Two canned goods (Soups, Beans, Fish, Stews) Year 8- Biscuits Year 9- Tea/Coffee Year 10- Chocolates/Sweets Year 11 & Sixth Form- Two canned goods

All of these are minimum donations. We have spoken to all students in assemblies and are encouraging them to go out and purchase these products themselves where possible.

18th and 19th of December – Christmas Parcel Preparation – Each of these days after school from 3:25pm – 5pm students are encouraged to come in groups of 3-4 (within year group) to prepare a parcel ready to deliver. Those who come and prepare parcels will be allowed to deliver the parcels on Wednesday the 20th of December. Letters of permission will be given to students on these evenings to be signed and returned on the 20th of December.

Every year this is a wonderful opportunity for students to visit our local community and support those who may not have as much as others over the Christmas period. Please encourage and support your child to attend the Christmas Parcel Preparation evenings where possible.

Secondary School of the Year Last Day of Term Arrangements—The last day of term is Thursday 21st of December. We ask all parents to ensure their child attends the last day as it is celebration day of student achievement over the last term as well as final learning opportunities for students before they have their break.

Bus Information—School will be closing at 12:35pm, after school lunch is served, and those students who catch the bus home will be supported by staff as usual.

Students who get the bus to Morecambe are to wait at the bus stop opposite the school for the number 5 bus which arrives at 12:42pm.

Students who get the bus to Lancaster will be walked to the vets in Carnforth for the number 555 bus which arrives at 12:53pm and then the number 55 which arrives at 1:18pm.

Students who get the 445 Brookhouse bus will wait at the front of school for the bus which will collect at 12:35pm.

Students who get the 51 bus to Silverdale will need to wait at the train station bus stop for the bus at 14:38. There will not be a member of staff with these students.

We would encourage parents, where possible, to collect students from school on the last day as the buses are normal service buses and delays can occur.

Christmas Dinner—This year we will be offering two sittings of the school’s Christmas dinner in the last week of the term. This is to cope with the high demand we have had for the dinner over the last couple of years. If your child would like to have a Christmas dinner, then they will need to book a place to ensure they get a ticket on the day. They should speak with the canteen staff to make this booking. It is a lovely event each year with staff serving the students and rounds off a very busy first term in the school.

CHSA Christmas Bingo—Thank you to all parents, students and members of the local community who attended our Christmas Bingo on Wednesday this week. It was a really well attended event and raised over £500 which will be used to purchase additional resources and opportunities for students in school. We hope if you couldn’t join us on this occasion, that you will look our for the Easter Bingo dates in the spring term. Student Achievements

Sport News

The week started in emphatic style on Monday, with a superb victory for the Year 9 rugby team in the Cup against Baines HS, Poulton-le-Fylde. The boys won 56-0 in what has to be their most impressive performance of the season so far. Sadly, the results then turned from the sublime to the not so great as the week drew on. The Year 10 footballers were knocked out of the Lancashire Cup by Alder Grange HS, Rossendale. The players were frustrated by their performance as they lost 9-2.

The Y7 & Y8 netball girls fared a little better against a strong Ripley St Thomas side. Unfortunately, they were unable to con- vert all their hard work into victories. However Mrs Nelson is pleased with the attitude and approach of the KS3 netball squads so far this year.

Finally, the Year 7 footballers were bitterly disappointed to be beaten in the national cup by St Francis Xavier's, Richmond. The score ended 3-2 in a game where the team held possession for much of the game, but failed to convert chances at one end and" clear their lines" at the other!

Let's hope the Year 8 footballers can finish the week as it began by defeating in the Lancashire cup on Friday!"
