Maine Running Hall of Fame Results Project 1999 Maine Running Hall of Fame Results Project 1999 Maine Running Hall of Fame September 2020 Introduction Prince Memorial Library began archiving Maine running data in 2009, when it first contributed individual race results to the Maine Running History web site. Efforts intensified in July 2018, when pdf versions of Maine Running were posted to the Digital Maine Repository. The print magazine, first published by Bob Booker in Bangor, Maine, in February 1980, was renamed Maine Running & Outing Magazine in January 1985. Chuck Morris and Steve Giles assumed control of the magazine in May 1987, and publication ceased with Volume 10 Number 12, a double issue dated December 1989/January 1990. Next added to the Digital Maine Repository was Pine Tree Running Journal, which began publication in Westbrook, Maine, in December 1996, under Roland J. Thibault. Publication of Pine Tree Running Journal ceased with Volume 1 Number 6, dated July 1997. The state’s first running magazine, Maine Runner, began publication under Rick Krause of Pittsfield, with Issue No. 1 dated March 14, 1978. Maine Runner appeared on the Digital Maine Repository in 2019. The magazine was renamed Maine Running & Nordic Skiing with Issue No. 14, dated December 13, 1978. The magazine was renumbered when No. 21, dated May 12, 1979, was followed by Vol. 2 No. 5, dated June 2, 1979; the first volume of the magazine thus ran from March 1978 (No. 1) through February 14, 1979 (No. 17), and the second volume began with the March 7, 1979, issue. Nos. 18 through 21 can also be considered Vol. 2 Nos. 1–4. Maine Running & Nordic Skiing continued through Vol. 2 No. 7, dated July 16, 1979, after which the name reverted to Maine Runner. The magazine’s last issue was Vol. 2 No. 12, dated October 29, 1979. In February 2020, the board of the Maine Running Hall of Fame saw a need to archive Maine road race results appearing on the Internet after the demise of the state’s last print running magazine, Pine Tree Running Journal. MRHOF provided funding for the capture and digital publication of results from the period 1997 through 2019, and work on the Maine Results Project commenced. Thomas C. Hard by Bill’s Fish market in Digby, Nova Scotia, CPR RDC-1 9059 is backing down to Digby Wharf on July 8, 1969, to exchange passengers connecting with the SS Princess of Acadia. The vessel is operating on the Canadian Pacific‘s Bay of Fundy ferry service between Saint John, New Brunswick and Digby, Nova Scotia. Dayliner 9059 was one of two RDC-1s purchased in 1956 especially for service on CP’s Dominion Atlantic Railway. Both 9059 and sister 9058 carried the Dominion Atlantic name on their tuscan red letterboards for years until the advent of CP Rail and “action” red. Incredibly, ex-DAR 9058 still performs service at the other end of the country as VIA 6133 on Vancouver Island’s Malahat service. R.J. Sandusky / Lavallee collection courtesy Ron S. Ritchie. BELOW: VIA Rail RDC-2 # 6205 and RDC-4 # 6250 about to disappear into the CPR Sudbury Yard on Saturday, June 21st, 2008.
