YANKEE POINT NEWS! Virginia is for Lovers, but Lancaster County is for Boat Lovers! Volume 246 November 1, 2020

Hello Yankee Pointers!

I will apologize up front for the length of this newsletter but there is a lot to cover here.

What a hurricane season! The latest and hopefully the last storm this week blew through on Thursday last week. Not much rain or surge but a fairly gusty fast-mover. Now the question looms: what weather will this winter brings. The Farmer’s Almanac says this will be a snowy winter. There are lots of small acorns on the ground. Does that mean anything? We do not have plans to turn off the water at the docks until we start seeing temperatures below freezing. The same goes for the bubblers. Last year we had them in the water and never turned them on. All we did was dissolve some of their zincs! I think we will hold off on putting them into the water until we see how cold it gets.

The Saltwater pool is closed for the season. See you next year.

The Poolside Café will change operating schedules beginning today and will remain open through the week of November 23. See below.

Paint Barn: The Cherubini 44 in the paint barn for a hull and deck paint job is progressing nicely. We expect this work to continue at least through the end of the month. Then we have a complete hull and paint job scheduled to go into the barn on a Catalina 27. That will run us into the next year because of our normal shutdown over the Christmas holidays. If you are contemplating a paint job, please don’t wait too long especially if your boat is already on the hard. Based on the volume of calls we are getting for winter storage; it looks like the yard will be even more filled than last year. Plan on both aisles having boats stored in them!

“Support Your Local Law Enforcement Concert”. NO CHANGE - I still don’t know what to print about this at this point other than IT WILL HAPPEN! We just don’t know when.

Bear Keeper, is an exceptional example of this fine heritage. Her owners lived aboard her for 20 years and when they decided that they had fulfilled their dreams on the sea, they decided she deserved a complete refit to make her ready for her next adventures. During the years 2016 and 2017 they completed an extensive re-fit of virtually all her systems. Truly, this yacht is ready for sea in all respects. Descending the companionway ladder, you immediately feel the warmth of teak and bronze drawing you into her world. The 6’ 5” headroom and the newly covered cushions in a basket weave pattern will appeal to tall and short sailors alike. Normally we start at the pointy end but since this boat has two of them, we will start in the bow. The forward-most compartment is the anchor locker with its large louvered teak door (LTD). The V-berth double has 6 cabinets w/ LTD’s and shelves both port and starboard. Two opening ports and the forward hatch provide light and ventilation.
