Transforming local roads

Improving the road network around Oxford North is crucial to provide safe travel by all users and improving capacity across all modes of transport.

We will be delivering: • a comprehensive transformation of the A40 & A44 into tree-lined streets with reduced speed limits to 30mph to create a welcoming gateway to Oxford and providing access to Oxford North for workers, residents and visitors • new street running through the district’s central area, Proposed A40 street section with a 20mph speed limit, directly linking the A40 & A44 • £5.9 million of advanced A40 transport infrastructure improvements, with funding secured from the central government Local Growth Fund by Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council and Oxfordshire LEP.

Extensive assessment work has been undertaken in consultation with Oxfordshire County Council and Highways England to assess the traffic impact of the development. This has involved the use of both strategic and local area traffic models to assess Oxford North's impact. Through this work, the measures proposed have been refined, and the modelling outcomes provisionally agreed with both Oxfordshire County Council and Highways England. Proposed A44 street section
