LIMAY RIVER Probably the richest fishing resource in Northern Patagonia, the Middle Limay River offers unique fly-fishing opportunities for the international angler.

This is an outstanding tail-water fishery that flows out of Pichi Picun Leufu Dam guaranteeing consistent flow, temperature and clarity at all times. The Middle Limay River runs 50 miles thru the semi-arid, high Patagonian steppe into the huge fertile lake formed by El Chocon Dam.

These are features that make the Middle Limay so unique. The fact that it is a tail water fishery ensures profuse underwater life of all sorts and a variety of daily hatches creating ideal conditions for super healthy populations of strong resident Browns and Rainbows that will take dries on the surface like there is no tomorrow.

The fact that it flows into a gigantic, fertile lake makes for the possibility of hunting enormous migratory Brown Trout that will swim up the river during the season getting ready to spawn. So both features mentioned make for a unique combination of action and excitement. You can fish dries on the surface all day long and/or you can work below the surface with weighted streamers if hunting huge fish is your focus.

The Middle Limay River is a large river with numerous channels, long deep runs, cliff side pools and even pocket water offering some of the most varied, challenging and rewarding fly fishing experiences in Patagonia today.

LOCATION: Limay River Lodge is located in Rio Negro Province, Northern Patagonia. Half way between the cities of Bariloche and Neuquén on the southern bank of the Middle Limay River 150 miles from Neuquén, Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes Airports. The closest town is Piedra de Aguila on the opposite bank. HOW TO GET THERE: Limay River Lodge is accessible by daily commercial flights from Buenos Aires to Bariloche and Neuquén Airports while San Martin de los Andes Airport offers daily flights in January and February. SPECIES: Brown and Rainbow Trout. SEASON: Second Saturday in November thru the end of May. FAQ’s: Daily guided fly fishing either from the boat or wading. LODGES CAPACITY & BOOKING CONDITIONS: Groups of 1 up to a max of 14. TYPICAL PACKAGE: 5 nights with 5 days of fly fishing, with optional wading or floating on the Middle Limay River. WADING & FLOATING: State of the art tackle and drift boats. Boats are used both to fish and to cover mile- age (ten 10-km beats).
