Friday 15 April

09.30 Welcome and Opening Ceremony

Full day workshops 10.15–16.30

Ruth Brown – Cyanotype on Fabric An introduction to the wonderful techniques of cyanotyping on fabric, a method from 1841 for producing beautiful, detailed white photographic images on a Prussian blue background.

Yvonne Brown – Marvellous Marble (Mixed media) Cosmati pavements – geometric patterns built up of inlaid stone decoration – are the starting point for producing your own printed fabrics to emulate the precious stones. We continue on to use these gems in the creation of unique textile interpretations.

Lynne Edwards MBE – Making Waves (Machine) Use a wavy ruler to make a wavy design – there will be a choice of several cushion-sized blocks. Tips and strategies will be given for using curves and waves as patchwork and quilting.

Effie Galletly – A Landscape in Less than 10 Pieces (Hand) This workshop offers a design and pattern to make a pieced landscape. Fabrics are supplied and students will learn about creating distance using colour. There is a choice of three patterns.

Philomena Langford – English Paper Piecing – what’s all the fuss about? (Hand) The workshop will explore the art of fussy cutting fabrics to obtain kaleidoscope effects, and the current resurgence of English paper piecing.

Half day drop-in sessions 10.00–12.15 Coats Threads: demonstrations through the morning. Delegates are invited to visit Room 7.

Linus Project: a volunteer organisation that aims to provide a sense of security and comfort to sick and traumatised babies, children and teenagers through the provision of new home-made quilts and blankets. Half day workshops 13.30–16.30 Anne Gosling – Quilting Design the Welsh Way (Hand) Use traditional Welsh quilting patterns to design your own wholecloth piece which can be made into a cushion.
