KEYNOTE ADDRESS

Matthew Scholes: Matthew Scholes has experience in the areas of athlete development, training and education, event management and sports marketing, and is considered a leader in developing innovative experiential training models for athletes, volunteers and administrators. He is currently lecturing in Sport & Recreation at Swinburne University, in addition to his role as Secretary General for the Victorian Commonwealth Games Association.

In the past, Matthew has been employed as Executive Director of Athletics Victoria, Marketing Manager of the Hawthorn Football Club, Event Director of the Commonwealth Games Premier’s Dinner and Training Director for the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships. In addition, he has worked with a number of elite athletes, including creating and delivering athlete development programs for the Collingwood and Melbourne Football Clubs. For the past three years, Matthew has been running a life skills program for the Melbourne Storm U20 players.

SESSIONAL PRESENTERS

Dr. Kevin Ball: Kevin Ball is an authority on the biomechanics and skill acquisition of kicking in Australian football. He has been employed as an Assistant Coach at the Fremantle Football Club, as a sport scientist with the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne Football Clubs, and as a specialist kicking coach for AFL teams, development squads and the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club. Kevin is the current kicking coach for the Australian Institute of Sport and Melbourne Storm, and also consults to a number of AFL clubs. He is an associate member of the AFL Sport Science Advisory Group and is a member of the AFL Kicking Skill Acquisition Group.

Peta Searle: Peta Searle joined the coaching staff of the Western Jets in late 2010 and is currently assisting with the development of the Under 16 Brad Johnson Squad, in addition to providing support to the Under 18 coaching staff on match days. She recently coached the Victorian Women’s Football Team at the National Championships in Adelaide and was instrumental in them retaining their title. Peta also enjoyed an undefeated five-year stint coaching the Darebin Falcons to successive premierships in the VWFL.

Dr. Rob Aughey: Rob Aughey is a lecturer in sports physiology at Victoria University and is also employed as Senior Sport Scientist at the Western Bulldogs Football Club. He is an authority on the physiology of Australian football, is an experienced media commentator, and has appeared in print, and on radio and television. Rob conducts annual fitness testing for AFL Victoria on the elite Under 18 TAC Cup footballers, and has also undertaken laboratory fitness testing for other AFL clubs. He is an active member of the AFL Sport Science Advisory Group.

Brendan McCartney: Brendan McCartney joined the Essendon Football Club as Assistant Coach in October 2010 after 11 seasons with Geelong. He is renowned for his teaching skills, having been a Development Coach at Richmond for two seasons before his time with the Cats. Brendan played 87 games for Newtown in the and coached Ocean Grove to four successive premierships between 1994 and 1997.
