Toronto Raptors Open Practice NBA Toronto Raptors Open Practice By Trung Ho October 7th, 2018 Toronto, ON (Mattamy Athletic Centre) Toronto Raptors three- point specialist C.J. Miles participates in a shooting drill with teammates Delon Wright, Malachi Richardson and Fred Van Vleet. Miles is coming into his second season with the Raptors after signing as a free agent in 2017. Following the Raptors’ stellar bench play last season, Toronto’s second unit earned the popular "Bench Mob” nickname, largely led by Pascal Siakam (left) and Fred Van Vleet (right). More traditional centers in the NBA have increasingly re-shaped their game to include perimeter shooting. He eventually was offered a two-way contract which will see Boucher split time between the Raptors and it’s G League affiliate, Raptors 905. Back-up point guard Fred Van Vleet defends All-Star guard Kyle Lowry. Lowry enters his seventh season with Toronto, the longest- tenured Raptor, and for the first time without his close teammate DeMar DeRozan, who was dealt in the offseason. Leonard is widely considered on of the NBA’s top-five players, a superstar- caliber player Toronto has never had. Right: Nick Nurse overlooks the third- string lineup on the court. Towards the end of the fourth quarter of the scrimmage, Nurse requested an extra quarter be played. Danny Green, Toronto’s newest starting shooting guard, inbounds the ball with Kawhi Leonard defending. Green and Leonard were instrumental in San Antonio Spurs’ 2014 NBA Finals title. Both players headed north of the border following this summer’s blockbuster deal that sent Toronto’s homegrown all-star DeMar DeRozan and Jakob Poetl to the Spurs. COLORADO basketball Postgame Quotes Colorado Buffaloes vs. Oregon State Beavers, Coors Events Center, Boulder, Colo. (January 2, 2014) Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle General “Good win. Welcome to Pac‐12 conference play. Nothing is going to be easy, and I think anyone that saw the game tonight – certainly in person – knows the talent and skill that Oregon State has. We beat a good team tonight. They are much better than their record, and with [Eric] Moreland back, they’re a different animal. They’re going to be good once he [Moreland] gets in the fold. This was his first game back. [Devon] Collier is a beast down low, Roberto Nelson is one heck of a player and Moreland is good. They just keep coming at you with athletes off the bench. It’s a good win against a quality opponent, and we did what we had to do. The best thing is we won when we didn’t shoot the ball well. We talk about defense and rebounding being the cornerstones of our program. Tonight’s a good example of why that is and our guys did what they had to do.” On Offensive Execution “It was okay. We just didn’t make a lot of shots, and they’re long and they’re athletic. It’s kind of like playing against Syracuse’s zone, not that I’ve played against that. It’s been a few years as a coach, but they’re so long and they’re so athletic, they cover the ground quickly. We didn’t shoot the ball well from three, but I thought in the first part of the second half, we got the ball inside at the end of the shot clock.

An amendment to the port’s exclusive negotiation agreement for Project Mainstay was signed last week, indicating that both Mitsui & Co. and the Korean Elec- tric Power Corp. have terminated their involvement. Elise Hamner, communications manager for the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, confirmed Saturday that Metropolitan Stevedore Co. of Wilmington, Calif. — doing busi- ness as Metro Ports — remains the port’s sole partner in the project. The amended agreement expires March 31. “We’re in an agreement with Project Mainstay through the end of the month, and then we’ll see where we’re at,” the port’s Chief Commercial Officer Martin Callery said Monday. • A Descriptive Model for NBA Player Ratings Using Shot-Specific-Distance Expected Value Points Per Possession
A Descriptive Model for NBA Player Ratings Using Shot-Specific-Distance Expected Value Points per Possession Chris Pickard MCS 100 June 5, 2016 Abstract This paper develops a player evaluation framework that measures the expected points per possession by shot distance for a given player while on the court as either an offensive or defensive adversary. This is done by modeling a basketball possession as a binary progression of events with known expected point values for each event progression. For a given player, the expected points contributed are determined by the skills of his teammates, opponents and the likelihood a particular event occurs while he is on the court. This framework assesses the impact a player has on his team in terms of total possession and shot-specific-distance offensive and defensive expected points contributed per possession. By refining the model by shot-specific-distance events, the relative strengths and weaknesses of a player can be determined to better understand where he maximizes or minimizes his team’s success. In addition, the model’s framework can be used to estimate the number of wins contributed by a player above a replacement level player. This can be used to estimate a player’s impact on winning games and indicate if his on-court value is reflected by his market value. 1 Introduction In any sport, evaluating the performance impact of a given player towards his or her team’s chance of winning begins by identifying key performance indicators [KPIs] of winning games. The identification of KPIs begins by observing the flow and subsequent interactions that define a game.
