Loving God, Loving Others, Reaching Out

April 14, 2013

Welcome

But for me it is good to be near God. — Psalm 73:28

We have no greater privilege than to draw near to God. We come to Him through the merit of Christ cru- cified. We come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we come with God’s promise that He will draw near to us (James 4:8).

If your faith has not yet come to rest in Christ, and if God is awakening in your heart a desire to take the next step, please use one of the prayer cards in the Friendship Register to contact the pastor or speak to him as you leave the sanctuary.

May our gracious Lord draw wonderfully near to you in this service today.

The Prayer of Adoration

The Confession of Faith The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all the worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heav- en, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remis- sion of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and 4 the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Gloria Patri (8:45 a.m.)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

The Prayer Time with The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Welcome

The Offering and Prayer of Dedication

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” —Acts 20:35

Our sympathy and prayers are extended to Robin and Ralph LaGuardia and their family on the loss of their daughter, Kristen LaGuardia.

THE VOICE OF THE MARTYRS Dear Pastor Brock, so many individuals worked together to make this year’s Mission Festival a success! I stand amazed at the devotion of ESPC to missions and so appreciate that this includes the often over- looked call to serve our persecuted brethren! Would you please “post” this somewhere so that all who were so gracious & helpful to me in this effort know how much I appreciate all their kindnesses in helping me “set-up” & “tear-down” & in keeping this voice for the martyrs going? God’s richest blessings on ESPC! Marcia Harris, Phil. 1:3-6

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES (10:00 a.m.)

CORNERSTONE CLASS (Meeting in the Disciple Center, 2nd Floor) This class will be studying "Who is the Holy Spirit?" Jesus said, "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever." The Lord knows that His disciples need a helper that can be with them all the time. This series of Biblical studies by Sin- clair Ferguson cover the role of the Holy Spirit in creation, in the work of redemption, and on to His continuing presence with us today. We will study the vital role the Holy Spirit has played and continues to play in the lives of God's people today.

FIRST FRUITS CLASS (Meeting in Room 8, Main Bldg/Sanctuary) This class is studying the book of 2 Corinthians. The first letter intro- duced us to the church at Corinth and addressed many of their issues. It was a church immersed in a culture of vice and immorality not un- like our own. In this second letter Paul does a follow up and opens up his life and heart more than in any other. We find in it unique state- ments about Paul’s experiences and advice about perseverance under trials, the nature of Christian service, evangelism and giving.

ENCOURAGER’S CLASS (Meeting in Room 9, Main Bldg/Sanctuary) This class will be studying "How to Develop a Powerful Prayer Life". This study will cover essential Biblical truths to growing in your per- sonal holiness and relationship with God. If you have ever struggled with a consistent and meaningful prayer life, or you simply don't know what or how to pray, then this study can help. This is not so much a study of how to get more out of God through prayer as it is about go- ing deeper into our relationship with God.

THE GATHERING CLASS (Meeting in the Disciple Center, 2nd Floor) This class is beginning a new series called "The Gospel in Life" by . The eight-week video based study is of the Gospel and how to live it out in your everyday life. In week one the group will study the city, the home and the world that is. Week eight closes with the theme of the eternal city, our heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between you'll learn how the Gospel can change your heart, your community, and how you live in this world.

20 - 30's CLASS (Meeting in the gym of the Family Life Center) This class will be studying the topic of Christian parenting taught by 12 Pastor Brock. SMART PHONE/IPAD USERS We now have our own app! Search for Eastern Shore Presbyterian Church in the apple store or the android market. Get access to sermons, an- nouncements, small groups, events, Bible readings and more.
