4 About Us

The Cayman Invitational was born from an idea by Commonwealth Gold medalist and World Champion bronze medalist, Cydonie Mothersill and her husband Ato Stephens. Together they formed KyStar Athletics, a pending not-for-profit organization, and through this company organised the first Cayman Invitational track event in May 2012.

The 2013 Cayman Invitational is listed on the North American Central America and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) calendar as an area permit meet, and is certified by NACAC. NACAC is the governing body for athletics for national and multi-national track federations with the North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

The vision for this event is for it to be held annually and achieve International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) – the governing body for professional track events - recognition as a World Challenger meeting, which means that the event will be included on the official IAAF calendar. Obtaining IAAF recognition would mean the Cayman Invitational would offer a wider range of disciplines and the IAAF would oversee the meet along with our area representatives.
