It may not be what everyone had hoped, but Tuscarawas County Fair participants are happy to be back.

Teri Stein Cora Dotts of Boots N Bling, pictured here with Tilly, is one of many who will still get to make an appearance at the annual 170th Tuscarawas County Fair.

The Tuscarawas County Agricultural Society will hold only a junior fair this year, and those events will be spread out more than normal. See page 4.

September 19, 2020 The Bargain Hunter – Southern Tuscarawas • 13 Unbound by Douglas Laubacher HOPE SUNDAY Be the Hope Churches - Join Us September 27, 2020

Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition and T4C invites churches to participate in third annual HOPE Sunday (New Philadelphia, Ohio) – The Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition and T4C is again partnering with more local churches across denom- inations to bring hope to communities impacted by increased issues around mental health and drug addiction. As a nation, we have seen a significant uptick in alcohol sales and suicides during the pandemic. In addition, in Tuscarawas county we have experienced a 283% increase in drug overdose deaths in the first six months of 2020. On Sunday, September 27, coinciding with National Recovery Month, numerous churches will come together to recognize “Hope Sunday.” It is an opportunity to create awareness around areas of concern in our local communities, and a call to action to our local churches and com- munity members. As part of the countywide event, Rove Creative Co. team, an extension of The Ezekiel Project, has created a short video, “Looking Up,” that helps persons better understand the difficult issues that members of our community are struggling with. The video encour- ages faith-communities and residents to actively seek out, love and support those hurting and struggling. Participating churches will receive the 4-minute video, and are asked to Summer share it with their congregations. Churches will be provided a brief script that can be used before or after the video, bulletin inserts that include prayer requests around addiction and mental health issues, and infor- PET mation on local resources. Churches will be given all the resources to share the event whether they are meeting in-person or virtually. SAFETY Last year’s event included participation from 100 churches across Tus- carawas County. This year we hope to mobilize this effort even further by extending our reach through partnerships with local churches as well as using social media in order to connect with as many Tuscarawas County residents as possible. “We want to share a resonating message with the community that acknowledges that while life can be hard, each and every person has extreme, unwavering value and purpose,” NO CARS SHADE & WATER explained Jodi Salvo, Coordinator of the Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Never leave a pet in the Protect your pets from car, not even with the the sun’s rays and Coalition. “We want to give each person hope in knowing that we are 1. window cracked. 2. keep them hydrated. truly in this together and that no one has to face the uncertainty alone.” Churches interested in participating are encouraged to contact Jodi Salvo at (330) 440-7320 to receive more information and material.
