ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Mar Thoma College for the Hearing Impaired, Cherkala, Kasaragod, is an academic institute in self financing sector and offers undergraduate programme B.Com with Computer Application for the Hearing Impaired. It is the first College under Kannur University to offer Degree course for the Hearing Impaired students to obtain a University Degree under Self- Financing Scheme. HISTORY In the year 1981, in order to educate Hearing Impaired students, Mar Thoma School for the Deaf was established and now it is aided school. In the year 2004 the School started its Higher Secondary Section which is recognized under un-aided Stream. In 2013 a College for providing higher education to the Hearing Impaired students has been established as a result of the long expectations of the students and parents. The college offers B.Com with Computer Application . NUMBER OF SEATS

The total numbers of seats including Management Quota are 25

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

1. Admission is restricted to those who are hearing impaired, as defined in “The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act, 1995” .i.e., Hearing Impairment means loss of 60 dB or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. 2. Candidates seeking admission to the degree programmes should have passed the Plus Two/Pre degree or its equivalent from any Board or University in India, recognized as equivalent for admission to a degree course in the University of Kannur or equivalent of 10+2 education in India or abroad.

HOW TO APPLY

Application can be had from the college office on payment of Rs.300/- (For SC/ST candidates Rs.150)

Attested copies of certificate/documents to be submitted with the application.

1. 12th/10th certificate to prove Age & date of birth.

2. Copy of Disability Certificate

3. Aadhar/Voter’s ID/Driving license/passport to prove the address.

4. Caste/Community Certificate if applicable.

5. Ration Card-1 Copy

6. 2 Copies of passport size photographs. Note:

1. Applications received after last date will not be accepted.

2. Incomplete applications and applications without required supporting documents will be rejected. 3. Do not enclose any original certificate along with the application.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

1. Selected candidates as per the norms of the University rules will be intimated by selection memo.

2. With the selection memo the candidates should report to the college on the date and time specified along with all original documents. 3. Originals of all certificates/documents referred to in the application should be submitted at the time of admission. 4. The candidate shall pay one year (2 Semesters) full fees at the time of admission. Rest should be remitted in the beginning of each year in advance

5. Disability certificate, conduct certificate and transfer certificate (a ll in originals)

should be submitted at the time of admission.

Mar Thoma College for the Hearing Impaired FEE STRUCTURE 1. The tuition fees for Indian nationals is currently Rs. 9000/- per semester and 25% of the Fee as Special Fee in each Semester. 2. Additionally students have to pay a refundable caution deposit of Rs. 2000/- at the time of admission which will be refunded after completion of the degree program on the basis of the clearance certificate from the concerned authority. 3. The candidate will have to pay the examination fee and other fees as prescribed by the University from time to time. Fees remitted will not be refunded under any circumstance. 4. Tuition fee is payable at the beginning of each semester within the Ist 10 working days. Otherwise Late fee of Rs.10/ will be added per week. 5. The admitted candidates can apply for the National scholarship for persons with disabilities by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, SC/ST scholarship and the State level Scholarship given by the Social Welfare department. Mar Thoma College for Hearing Impaired shall provide guidance to the candidates in applying for the scholarship. 6. PTA Fund will also be collected on the basis of the direction of PTA. GENERAL RULES

1. Ragging in any form which includes harassment by word, action, gesture, intimidation, coercion, physical or mental insult/ assault, teasing etc. which are capable of causing mental/physical stress or moral torture or agony to other students or staff inside/outside the premises of the College or hostel etc. is strictly coming under the word Ragging and is prohibited in the college. The college is committed to abolish Ragging in the campus. Hence, any student who indulges in any form of Ragging will be subject to penal action as per provisions of law. Students and parents shall at the time of admission furnish an Affidavit to the effect that the student shall not indulge in any form of Ragging. 2. Use of mobile phone Cameras or any other electronic equipment by students is prohibited in the campus without permission. Any violation will lead to disciplinary action as deemed fit by the College authorities.

3. Students are required to maintain the buildings and campus clean and the equipment should be handled with care. Any damages to the building or equipment will be made good and the cost will be recovered from the person responsible. 4. Students cannot enter classroom or laboratory after the session has started nor will they be allowed to leave the session without the permission of the faculty-in- charge/Principal. 5. Every student will be issued an Identity Card, which must be worn around the neck using the tag provided inside the class. 6. At least 75% of attendance is essential to write Examination. Leave of absence will be granted only on medical grounds. Such leaves will be considered only for the purpose of granting condonation of shortage of attendance. 7. Internal assessment will be made for each subject to obtain internal marks.
