Wijnfiche Viña La Ceja - Cien Y Pico DO (CASTILLA LA MANCHA) — 2017

Domain Viña La Ceja Cien y Pico or Viña La Ceja is a new producer located in Manchuela, a small region in Southeastern Spain. The first harvest year in 2007 immediately yielded some gold medals at the 2010 International Wine Challenge. The name 'Cien y Pico' means 'a hundred and a little', and refers to the age of the old Garnacha Tintorera and Bobal vines from which the wine is made. Cien y Pico includes 4 vineyards, all located on the Meseta plateau of Castilla-La Mancha, at an altitude of 1000 meters. With barely 300mm of rainfall per year, it is very dry in the region, but the deep rooted vines respond very well in the poor but rich limestone soil. The hills around the plateau offer protection from the icy winters, while in summer the sun at this altitude perfectly ripens the grapes.

Vinification Short cold maceration of the grapes before pressing, fermentation in open tanks for 7 days, followed by maturation in stainless steel vats and bottling in December.

Taste Cherry red color with intense aromas of strawberries and raspberries in the nose, followed by some spiciness and minerality. This wine has a fruity character in the pallet with silky tannins and a nice complexity thanks to the very old vines.
