The matric certificate that learners are awarded at the end of their grade 12 year is known as the NSC. Although there are various examining bodies in (IEB, DBE and SACAI), Umalusi, previously known as the South African Certification Authority, awards the same certificate to all successful candidates. The NSC has been benchmarked internationally and the report’s executive summary declared “that the National Senior Certificate at grade 12 is broadly comparable to the UK’s GCE AS-level”. #

When applying to credible tertiary institutions abroad, candidates will be expected to sit for an admission test. South African universities do the same with their international applicants.

Learners who have been at an IEB school are used to rigorous assessment which produces reliable and credible results. Feedback is that our learners excel in the local National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) which all applicants to SA universities have to write. These results together with the matric results are used to determine admission to certain faculties. Learners from Midstream College have not struggled to gain admission to universities abroad. This year alone we have six learners studying at universities in the USA, Belgium and Australia. These studies include medicine and engineering.

A study has shown that the throughput rate at UCT of IEB candidates compared to those who wrote the government or certain international exams (e.g. Cambridge) is extremely high. That means that percentage wise more IEB candidates complete their courses in the allotted time than any of the other examining bodies.

Both high school and primary school parents can relax regarding the misinformation spread on social media lately. Your children are in good hands.

In 2017, the parents of Midstream College Primary School provided 950 food parcels to needy families over a 10-month period. Everyone involved is extremely grateful for each and every contribution made last year.

We are very excited to partner with Kerksondermure and Midstream Superspar again this year to provide non-perishable food and other household items to families in need.

Each family that gets involved undertakes to commit themselves to donating 10 bags throughout the year. These bags are distributed to needy families by Netwerk vir Lewe from Kerksondermure.

How does it work? 1. Choose to become involved. 2. Follow the link below to register. 3. Buy a pre-packed bag from Midstream Superspar *. (NB: Only available to parents who have chosen this option in the registration process.) 4. Drop the bag at school on the submission date. It’s as easy as that!

* You are also welcome to purchase bags and their contents from any shop of your choice and pack them. Midstream Superspar, however, makes it much easier for you to become involved.
