www.theentertainmentguide.co.uk 3 INTRODUCTION

t might not be the UK’s most populous city, but for short breaks and beach holidays, Swansea is in a class of its own. Family holidays and couples’ romantic getaways all start in Swansea Bay, whose steep cliffs and golden sands give way to a peninsula that can be as calm as glass on a summer’s day. For epic adventures, you don’t have to search too hard; Swansea and its picturesque bay are brimming with opportunities and excursions of all kinds.

Mumbles and are prized for their clean beaches and hiking trails, with dog walkers especially drawn to the area. There are some exquisite public parks and green spaces too such as Singleton Park, which comprises acres of verdant grass and mature trees together with a boating lake where pedalo hire is de rigueur during the summer months. For purveyors of rare plant species, Clyne Gardens is the place to head, whose Rhododendrons, Pieris and Enkianthus are awash with colour.

Swansea and the surrounding area aren’t just about bucolic pleasures and getting away from it all though. Sure, you can seek solace here, but don’t feel compelled to: head to the city centre and you’ll find surprisingly vibrant nightlife, with bars such as The Westbourne, ’ first self-service pub, doing a roaring trade, with patrons savouring the enchanting views as much as the ability to order a pint from the comfort of their table.

If you know where to look, Swansea offers a wealth of enticing options, from accommodation to entertainment. Without that all-important local knowledge, however, discovering the best bars, freshest seafood restaurants, greatest family attractions and chirpiest cafes in Wales’ second largest city comes down to pot luck. The Entertainment Guide believes that no holiday or business trip should be dependant upon sheer serendipity. Your time is too valuable to be spent on run-of-the-mill attractions and forgettable eateries. Thankfully, there’s a better way.

As you explore Swansea – its waterfront cafes, gastropubs, football stadium and French bistros – keep The Entertainment Guide close at hand on your tablet or smartphone. From exceptional activity centres to eclectic shops, we’ve curated the very best local attractions, leaving you with the simple task of planning your itinerary around them.

We’re here to point you in the right direction, but the rest – the fun part – is entirely up to you.

Whether you’re visiting the city of Swansea and its beautiful bay for business, pleasure or a little bit of both, keep this resource close at hand. The Entertainment Guide contains everything you need to turn a pleasant stay into an unforgettable one.

Since the brand launch in 2000, visitors to our national website have requested recognition for the best venues throughout Great Britain and Ireland, therefore I decided to acknowledge and reward these businesses by inviting the general public to vote for their favourites through our website.
