Southern Institute 2010 and 2011 Viognier earn awards!

More than 5,800 wines were entered in the 30th San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, held in Sonoma County, Calif. Entries represented over 1200 wineries covering 25 states.

The San Francisco Chronicle wine competition is the largest industry judging of the year and for 2014, 5825 wines were entered by 1,700 wineries from 25 US states. Seventy judges with varied background from writers, wine educators, marketers, retailers, wholesalers, restaurateurs, hoteliers, grape growers to winemakers evaluated the wines. http://winejudging.com/medal_winners.htm This year several wineries from Southern Oregon were among those to earn recognition and eight producers in the Umpqua Valley area were honored with Double Gold, Gold, or Silver medal. Double gold One Umpqua Valley winery earned two of the four Double Gold Medals that came to Oregon. o 2012 Viognier, Umpqua Valley, $22 o Abacela 2009 South East Block, Reserve Reserve, Umpqua Valley, $50 Gold There were a total of 46 Gold Medals (single Gold) awarded to wineries in the Pacific Northwest including 15 from Oregon.
