2006 - year of pilot projects based on the results of the Countrywide Mine Victim Needs Assessment Survey of 2004 Five directions of various strategies: ‰ provision of medical care and physical rehabilitation in sanatorium ‰ reintegration into society ‰ legal support and assistance in reviewing of disability degrees ‰ continuation of needs assessment and adjustment of MVA strategy and ‰ empowering of mine survivors’ communities – Terter Association The knowledge and expertise, skills and information obtained during implementation of these projects have been extensively used for developing the plan for year 2007.

‰ Mainly due to the military conflict (ceased since May 1994) resulted from territorials claims of Armenia to Azerbaijan ‰ Former soviet military ranges and armories ‰ According to Landmine Impact Survey in 2003 Azerbaijan suffers from extensive landmine and UXO contamination in the war-torn districts along the cease-fire and the border with Armenia ‰ 643 affected communities in 18 districts ‰ 970 suspected hazard areas ‰ ANAMA keeps records on about 2.000 mine victims from districts. Needs Assessment Survey in year 2004 revealed 1883 mine survivors ‰ 500 km2 of occupied territories estimated to be contaminated by about 50.000 mines and enormous amount of UXOs April 18, 2007 www.anama.baku.az 7
