2006 - year of pilot projects based on the results of the Countrywide Mine Victim Needs Assessment Survey of 2004 Five directions of various strategies: provision of medical care and physical rehabilitation in sanatorium reintegration into society legal support and assistance in reviewing of disability degrees continuation of needs assessment and adjustment of MVA strategy and empowering of mine survivors’ communities – Terter Association The knowledge and expertise, skills and information obtained during implementation of these projects have been extensively used for developing the plan for year 2007.

Mainly due to the military conflict (ceased since May 1994) resulted from territorials claims of Armenia to Azerbaijan Former soviet military ranges and armories According to Landmine Impact Survey in 2003 Azerbaijan suffers from extensive landmine and UXO contamination in the war-torn districts along the cease-fire and the border with Armenia 643 affected communities in 18 districts 970 suspected hazard areas ANAMA keeps records on about 2.000 mine victims from districts. Needs Assessment Survey in year 2004 revealed 1883 mine survivors 500 km2 of occupied territories estimated to be contaminated by about 50.000 mines and enormous amount of UXOs April 18, 2007 www.anama.baku.az 7
