Each of our lives has a ripple effect on others. All of us leave a legacy.
We celebrate the many individuals and families who are part of the Jewish Community Foundation’s innovative Create a Jewish Legacy program. More than 1,300 have become Legacy Society Members, establishing legacy gifts to support Jewish life in perpetuity. These generous community members have committed almost $200 million in future planned gifts; more than $70 million has already been realized, through endowments funded during people’s lifetimes or, sadly, at their deaths. Many of these donors have planned gifts to multiple organizations.
This devotion and commitment to Jewish continuity is vibrant and active today, thanks to the pioneering spirit of Gail Littman (z”l) who together with the leadership and board of the Jewish Community Foundation, established Create a Jewish Legacy in San Diego in 2004.
This visionary program has been responsible for building a culture of legacy giving in San Diego. As a result of Create a Jewish Legacy, endowment dollars raised will guarantee that vital programs will flourish and that agencies, schools, and synagogues will be able to sustain themselves even through especially difficult times such as these we face today. The bequests established through Create a Jewish Legacy are inspiring examples of l’dor v’dor, the passing of values from one generation to the next. We gratefully acknowledge all the professionals and lay leaders who have dedicated their time to this effort.
As you will see in the following pages, where we honor and recognize our Legacy Society Members, the beauty of a Jewish legacy is that it’s yours to create. You can leave a bequest to any program or institution that is close to your heart. Chances are you already donate to these organizations.
