CORNER Heralds of Harmony Groupani From the zer by Dave Roberts, History President, Tenor Guy by Dave Roberts, President, Tenor This month presented an interesting problem for our website. The question of how do we build a riser On May 29, 2015, the Tampa Chapter will become 70 years old. placement chart for the combination chorus was You would think that a chapter that old would have nothing the problem. I was Tony’s riser placement guy back but old guys sitting in chairs while rehearsing and dreaming in 2001 when we had 105 members in our Nashville of the past; but that is not the case. We have a few white hairs Contest Chorus. Back then, there was no software and baldies, but most of our members today are young guys to help with this problem and we used magnets, with lots of hair with color and everything. So I guess we are each labeled with the member’s name, and these set for another 70 years. We will plan a celebration of our 70th birthday and will make a big deal out of it with bands, parades, magnets were ‘stuck’ to a large metal square and dancing girls and maybe not. But, we will let Tampa know establishing the member’s riser position. What a that they have a fine singing organization and a community pain in the “keeshter.” asset. That was a cumbersome solution to a problem Last month, I listed non-barbershoppers who had been due to the size of the chorus. Today, we approach awarded the Barbershopper of the Month Award and it follows: a similar-size problem with a bit more complexity. Tampa Chapter Takes 5th Place at International!

That’s right, you read that correctly. The Tampa Herald placed 5th in the 2014 Barbershop Harmony Society PROBE International Bulletin Contest (IBC). PROBE is the acronym for “Public Relations Officers and Bulletin Editors” and is the Society’s subsidiary that supports and recognizes the mostly-unsung editors who dutifully create these masterpieces on a regular basis. In many chapters (Tampa not included!), internal communications often begin and end with the chapter bulletin, a tradition dating back to the days of manual typewriters and mimeographs. The purpose of the IBC is to promote better communication within our Society by encouraging chapter editors to produce bulletins that meet certain criteria in three categories: Content – Layout and Reproduction – Grammar and Style. Winning chapter and editor names are added to a plaque on permanent display in the Barbershoppers’ Museum at Society headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. Roxanne Clapp, Editor In the Grammar and Style category, it is noteworthy to mention that Tampa scored two points below first place. Congratulations to our editor and go-to From the Editor: gal, Roxanne Clapp, wife of our Immediate Past President and Lead, Larry Woo hoo!
