More on this in December Real Book Reviews by Lois Neff Beaglemania: A Pet Rescue Mystery by Linda O. Johnston - 2011

Lauren Vancouver is the head of “HotRescues”a no-kill animal shelter, but it is often human nature that puts her in the path of danger. In this story that (danger) happens three times. At a particularly nasty puppy mill (a place that breeds and produces dogs without regard to the safety, health and com- fort of the animal), Lauren helps rescue four adorable beagle puppies that were dumped down a drain- age pipe; and she is pretty sure she knows who is responsible. Efram Kiley, an employee of the mill has a history of dog abuse. After he shows up at HotRescues and stirs up trouble by threatening Lau- ren, Efram is found dead at the shelter --- and Lauren becomes the prime suspect. Anyone that is an animal lover will enjoy this first book of a new series to the Library!

I’m sorry I have to Kid’s Corner by …… Any volunteers? leave! I’ll miss all my visitors and Sarah regrets to announce that she is unable their families. to continue “STORY TIME” due to conflict with

her class schedules!! Texas hunting season has started… for squirrels now, and other game seasons are close at hand. Many real young children can’t go with family members and may be either disappointed they can’t go or don’t know what hunting is about. Bring them by anytime to read (and sing) from this book.

Sarah Johnson Friends News Page 4 Board Officer Comments !! No business was conducted during September as is noted in September’s Financial Report. All Summer Reading expenses to-date have been paid. Receipts were very light and so no deposit was made until October. These (and other) receipts will be reflected in Octo- ber’s Report. It is imperative, as we move into membership renewal time to get a volunteer to serve as Vice President. At this time, the Vice President will NOT have to serve in lieu of the Presi- dent. The primary responsibility of the VP will be to maintain and track incoming membership (new and renewals). If anyone likes to do a little spreadsheet work on a computer and is will- ing to donate about 10 hours per month, stay in touch with the Library staff to get incoming forms and keep the membership up to date, the FOL needs your help. In order to keep expenses down and serve our membership, we need to know our membership. Non-renewals will be dropped from the roster and not receive services; but we do not want to inadvertently omit or overlook our loyal constitu- ency. Please let anyone on the Library staff know your interest.
