PLAYBILL Simon’s failing heart made the simplest tasks difficult. Today, he’s doing things he never thought possible.

SIMON DAVISON’S BODY WAS IN SHOCK WHEN HE WAS ADMITTED TO STONY BROOK. His team of cardiac physicians determined that Simon’s heart was functioning at only 15% of its capacity — greatly reducing his ability to work or participate in family activities. The Stony Brook University Heart Institute team decided Simon needed a left ventricular assist device, or LVAD, a small, battery-powered pump designed to circulate adequate amounts of blood through his body. Within three weeks of receiving the LVAD, Simon could feel his energy and strength returning. Today, he has a new lease on life and is working again and enjoying time with his family.

Back by popular demand, we are thrilled to bring this fantastic group of singers, dancers, and skaters to Patchogue, which is now transformed into a gleaming ice stage. Nowhere else in our area can you see a Broadway caliber ice show in the comfort of a theatrical setting. Check online for additional performances after the holiday and for New Year’s Eve as well.

While we are always proud to produce “top-notch” productions such as these, there is more to The Gateway than just great shows. Once again we had the pleasure of hosting in-class workshops with the South Country School District. Alongside teachers and administrators, our staff explored theme, character development, and point of view by leading acting exercises and active discussion. The 3rd grade program culminated with a fieldtrip to Gateway to see Mooseltoe. The program was made possible thanks to the Knapp-Swezey Foundation, and was presented at no cost to the students and district. Programs like these provide a glimpse at how our organization brings communities together - in pursuit of a common good. To accomplish our mission, all our programs need your help to reach their full potential. If you believe that live theatre can affect the education, creativity, and emotional well-being of a child, we encourage you to lend your support and become a Contributing Member.

As we approach the New Year, know that we are working to bring you bright shows, bold programs, and brilliant ways to engage with the performing arts. Remember, YOU are the reason for all that we do here at Long Island’s Oldest Professional Theatre.

From our family to yours - Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Paul Allan Executive Artistic Director

So I went from a big cardiology practice to a personal one with a staff that knows my patients, and a rock-solid team at Knapp Cardiac Care Center. We get close to our patients. Their lives. Their family is our family. Our work is to save their lives. Brookhaven Hospital’s new Knapp Cardiac Care Center will help us save even more.
