More colour on TV: Sharp presents Quattron LCD TV technology in TV commercials In May 2010 Sharp will be running its new commercial on the major German TV stations. At the heart of the 30-second advert is the electronics company’s innovative Quattron technology. This is being incorporated in the new AQUOS LCD TVs for the first time. The celebrity endorser in the commercial is American actor George Takei, known for his role as helmsman Hikaru Sulu under Captain Kirk in Star Trek. For Sharp Takei has taken on the role of Dr. Q and explains to viewers how Quattron is boldly taking colour television where no TV has been before.

Europe, Mai 2010 . From May until June 2010 technology company Sharp will be advertising its new four-colour technology in a German TV commercial. Sharp will be running the 30-second commercial on nine TV stations 1 in the weeks leading up to the start of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The broadcasts will be focused on prime time between 6pm and 10pm. The new Sharp endorsement is from Dr. Q. who extols the benefits for the viewers of the fourth pixel colour of (RGB+Y) in the LCD panels in his original German dubbed voice.

“Quattron technology is the highlight of our new AQUOS line-up and is boldly taking the colour television experience where no TV has been before,” says Andrea Weigert, Head of Corporate Communication Sharp Electronics Europe. “Our new pixel technology offers consumers the best picture available on an LCD TV and at the same time has a positive impact on the environmental performance of the TVs 2. Add to this the outstanding new design of the sets and unrivalled audio performance thanks to the integral sound system including a subwoofer. We are delighted that George Takei has agreed to be our celebrity endorser for a credible Quattron presentation,” Weigert continues. The final frontier? As in Star Trek, Sharp is now also taking consumers into new dimensions via Quattron. Up till now the of LCD panels consisted of the three primary colours of , and . Sharp has added a fourth, yellow subpixel to this three-subpixel structure. The outcome is a much greater displayable colour space and more brilliant and natural colours in the , yellow and scales but also red and and for skin colours. Since the yellow subpixels have a higher aperture ratio than the red, green and blue ones, Quattron also results in reduced energy consumption: a higher

We are now launching the two LE820E and LE810E Quattron series in the run- up to the FIFA World Cup, this year’s sales driver for modern flat TVs,” states Andrea Weigert. “The coming weeks will see further model series added to complete our AQUOS 2010 line-up.
