The eye-catching winner of a Newbury maiden recently, the COLT MATCHES Sheikh Hamdan-owned Emaraaty earned >TDN Rising Star= status and is currently quoted at 25/1 for next year=s Derby and is 2016 BOOK 1 TOPPER entered in the G1 Darley Dewhurst S. on Oct. 14. Sheikh Mohammed Obaid=s new colt is hardly in need of updates, however, with the unbeaten Dreamfield (GB) ( {GB}) as a half-brother, as well the stallions Opera House (GB) (Sadler=s Wells) and his full-brother Kayf Tara (GB) among his relatives. Turnover was up by 8% during the first session of Book 1, with 119 yearlings sold from 154 offered for a total of 33,880,000gns. While there were plenty of blockbuster lots, the trade was selective at times, leading to a reduced clearance rate of 77%, down by five points from last year. The median figure rocketed, however, by 38% to 200,000gns, while the average of 284,706gns was also up significantly by 24%. Cont. p2

Lot 13, the session-topping son of Dubawi | Tattersalls IN TDN AMERICA TODAY By Emma Berry and Kelsey Riley 4,145 CATALOGUED FOR KEENELAND NOVEMBER There was a strong sense of deja vu as =s Keeneland has cataloged 4,145 horses for its 2017 November Dubawi (Ire) colt out of the G1 winner Izzi Breeding Stock Sale to be held Nov. 7 through Nov. 18 in Lexington.. Click or tap here to go straight to TDN America. Top (GB) ( {GB}) exited the ring at Tattersalls with a 2.6- million-guinea price tag on his head to lead the first day of Book 1. This time last year his close relative Emaraaty (GB)--a Dubawi half-brother to this colt=s dam--made the same amount to share top billing at the October Sale and despite the inauspicious omen of being catalogued as lot 13, the latest member of the high-class family to be offered for sale again had a number of top-end buyers in pursuit. AHis first three dams are all Group 1 winners,@ coaxed auctioneer John O=Kelly as the chestnut colt took his turn, but no such sales patter was required as first Alastair Donald and Roger Varian locked horns, before Sheikh Mohammed encouraged Anthony Stroud to signal his interest. The sheikh is not often outdone, particularly when it comes to acquiring sons of Dubawi, but he eventually gave way to his cousin and Dubawi=s owner-breeder Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, for whom Varian was acting. AWe were rather concerned, being lot 13 and in so early in the sale, especially as there are a lot of Dubawi yearlings in the catalogue,@ said Mark Weinfeld of Meon Valley Stud. ABut if he=s any good, he has a stallion=s pedigree, and we know that really likes Emaraaty.@ TDN EUROPE/INTERNATIONAL • PAGE 2 OF 17 • THETDN.COM WEDNESDAY • 4 OCTOBER, 2017

Kitten=s Joy | Joy B. Gilbert

Now that Ramsey has decided to keep Kitten=s Joy in Kentucky, the next step will be to figure out where to move him to. He said a definite decision has been made to enter into a partnership with a U.S. stud farm and transfer Kitten=s Joy from Ramsey=s own farm. AHe will stand here in Kentucky and we have five major farms that we are negotiating with,@ he said. AWe have to figure out what is the best deal for the industry, the best deal for the family and the best deal for the horse. AWe need to turn a new page and get a new, vigorous team behind this horse that will promote him and probably has more contacts in the industry than I have. One of the problems has been the perception out there that I am keeping the good ones and selling the bad ones. That=s not entirely true. We just need a clean slate and at some place with somebody that has a little more creative mind than mine and may have better contacts than I do.@ Ramsey said that whatever farm gets to stand Kitten=s Joy must also give him the royal treatment he has received at Ramsey Farm. AWe=re always looking out for the well being of the horse,@ he said. AWe have here what we call >Kitten=s Spa= and it is an underwater treadmill. We exercise the horse on it three days a week and it has a vibrating platform for his bone density and there are heat lamps coming down. We treat him like a pet here. We=ve been to people=s farms and taken a look at where he might stand, the pastures and all that. Three of the farms we have talked to agreed that if we let them have the horse they will build a spa for him just like the one we have for his exercise.@ According to TDN sales statistics, through the Keeneland September sale, Kitten=s Joy=s yearlings sold for an average price of $113,305. Cairo Prince Colt Rules (cont. from p1) Bennett continued, AWe had a good crowd. People stayed until the end and I think we had a good audience. People found horses they wanted, and they battled on the good ones. They=re going to good spots and hopefully we=ll see them down the road.@ Of the RNA rate, she said: AReally it=s been no different from what we=ve seen all year.
