In June/July 19931 trekked in the Milarn Glacier area just outside the eastern rim of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. I now intend to join a trek into the sanctuary proper in late September this year. This trekwill follow in the steps of famous eady Himalayan explorers Tilman and Shipton whofound a route into the Sanctuary through the Rishi Gorge in 1934. The twin peaks of Nanda Devi(781 6m) and Nanda Devi East(7434m) are surrounded by a wall of icy slopes and snowy peaks 6000-7000m high, forming one of the most formidable and inaccessible but beautiful sanctuaries in the Himalayas. The sanctuary has been closed since 1982 for environmental reasons but has now been reipened for visitors. The trek will be for 23 days with a total trip of about 30 days. This could be extended as desired with a side trip to the Taj Mohal or other parts of India. If you would like further information coil me on 254 0764 (home) or 264 3472 (work). Allan Mikkelsen
