F A L L 2 0 2 0 EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY GGeeooSScciieennccee NNeewwsslleetttteerr Dedicated to our wonderful friends and alumni of Eastern's Geology Department

It has been too long…well maybe only the nanoseconds in geologic time, but we hope you are doing as well as possible during this ever-changing pandemic. Amidst the storm, EWU Geology continues to focus on geology student's research and applying professional geological skills in the community. It was a LOT of work, but we made Spring (and now Fall) available on-line so that EWU Geology students still receive the best possible education and graduate without delay. Next year we hope to be able to return to the field, at least in summer for Geology Field Camp and independent research with students.

In the last few years we have taken time to enjoy the amazing work of Gene Kiver, Ernie Gilmore, Linda McCollum and most recently our world exploring John Buchanan and wished them our best during retirement. Please join us in welcoming Lindsay MacKenzie, the new sedimentologist and paleontologist, to the department. Next, in Fall 2021, we will (re)merge with Geography to make the new Department of Geosciences and continue to focus on students and working with the community and making strides to understand our natural surroundings.

Please don’t take us for granite, since EWU Geology Students continue to impress at many meetings. The Geological Society of America (GSA) requested EWU to host a joint Cordilleran and Rocky Mountain sectional meeting. Please consider sharing your geologic expertise or just come join the fun at the Spokane GSA meeting in May 2024! In fact, please come out and see us as much as possible, let us know how you are doing, join us on social media, and make sure to participate in some amazing speakers in our new Lecture Series and Seminars. Thank you for taking the time to read about our amazing student accomplishments below and appreciate your continued support!
