I went to Sixth Form for a year and decided it wasn’t for me. So, I thought an apprenticeship would be a good stepping stone into working life, as well as gaining qualifications at the same time. I have learnt a lot of skills that I would not have done if I had stayed in education and it has made me more aware of how a business works. Business Admin has given me the basic tools to do any type of office job and going forward, I can move into a more specialised area within Morgan Sindall. After this apprenticeship, I will be doing another apprenticeship in learning and development, again with Morgan Sindall.

Abi, 18 – Business Administration apprentice with Morgan Sindall Our gardens are suffering from a skills shortage that is throughout the industry, so apprenticeships seemed one of the ways to address the problem. We wanted to be able to offer practical training to people who are passionate about horticulture and until now have had very few opportunities to pursue that career. I’d already gone to university to study creative WCG have provided us with excellent support with the recruitment of apprentices, writing and I got a job in marketing and and handling the relationship with the individual training sites. communications which wasn’t for me. I really Kate Nicoll, National Specialist for Garden Training at National Trust wanted to work outside, but after having spent a lot of time and money at university, an apprenticeship was a great way to get into something like this as you get work experience We take on apprentices because we’ve got as well. The best thing is that I get to work a lot of knowledge within Ricardo and we outdoors which is brilliant in the summer; you get need to make sure we pass that on to the incredible work experience out of it and obviously learning at next generation of engineers. the same time which you just don’t get from a regular course. Our apprentices from WCG have developed I hope to continue working here or somewhere in the National Trust after through the company and are now in completing the course. If not, working for the National Trust should help me prominent positions, i.e. team leaders get my foot in the door with a horticulture job. and manufacturing engineers.
