Steve Sertich, a member of the 1976 US Olympic team and currently serves as the Vice President of the US Steve Sertich enters Hockey Hall of Fame. The US Hockey Hall of Fame was dedicated in 1973. The Hall of Fame has his sixth season as 145 outstanding coaches, players, builders, administrators and two Olympic teams who have head coach of the BSU contributed to the success and promotion of American hockey. BSU played in the US Hockey women’s hockey program. Hall of Fame Game in 2008 against University of Wisconsin at the Eveleth Hippodrome. Sertich has helped propel the program to heights never seen before. Captains Alana McElhinney Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop Montana Vichorek • The Bemidji State women’s hockey team has been a scoring machine this season goals accounting for 38 goals in 12 games. BSU’s seven goals against Maine and eight goals versus St. Cloud State Marlee Wheelhouse are their highest scoring performances since tallying eight goals against St. Cloud State Oct. 26, 2001. BSU has scored three or more goals in every game but their first game of the season. Cleaning Up • The Bemidji State Beavers have picked up two sweeps this season with two wins against University of Maine and two wins versus WCHA foe St. Cloud State University. The sweep of St. Cloud State was the first conference sweep of the season for BSU. Comeback Kids • The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team has shown time and time again this season that they are poised in the face of adversity. After mounting two comebacks against Ohio State University the week prior. BSU did it again as they came from behind in the waning minutes against Maine to come away with an overtime victory over the Black Bears, 3-2. BSU was down 2-1 with less than two minutes left when they pulled the goaltender in order to go on a six-on-four skater advantage via a power play. Emily Erickson (R-Jr., F, Coleraine, Minn.) quickly netted the puck tying the game and forcing an overtime where Tess Dusik (So., F, Oak Bluff, Manitoba) tallied the game winner two minutes into the extra period. Moving Forward • The Bemidji State defense has done a great job of helping score goals this season. The Beaver defensemen have accounted for 37 of 102 points this season. Two players (Montana Vichorek, and Erika Wheelhouse) rank in the top 10 in the nation for defenseman scoring and are also among BSU’s top five scorers this season along with Marlee Wheelhouse. The BSU blue liners have scored 12 goals and tallied 25 assists this season led by Vichorek’s four goals and 10 assists. Home Grown 2011-12 WCHA • BSU has found success recruiting all over Minnesota and has delved into Canada for some talent but currently the Beavers’ five leading scorers all hail from Northern Minnesota. Montana Players of the Week Vichorek of Moose Lake and Sadie Lundquist of Cloquet currently lead the team with four goals and 10 assists while Coleraine-product Emily Erickson and Crookston-natives Marlee and Erika Wheelhouse have also been a huge part of the BSU scoring this season. Offensive Players of the Week Kathleen Rogan (MSU) - Oct. 5 No Goals For You Amanda Kessel (UM) - Oct. 12 • Alana McElhinney (Sr., G, Calgary, Alberta) put up her third career shutout with 17 saves in a Natalie Spooner (OSU) - Oct. 12 7-0 victory over Maine Oct. 15. The game served as McElhinney’s debut on the season. Mac has Laura McInitosh (OSU) - Oct. 19 appeared in two games this season and has only allowed two goals while making 40 saves. Both Monique Lamoureux-Kolls (UND) - Oct. 25 games were wins for McElhinney. Katherine Wilson (UMD) - Nov. 2 Overtime • Tess Dusik’s goal Oct. 14 against Maine gave BSU thier first overtime victory since defeating Defensive Players of the Week Minnesota State University 2-1 Dec. 11, 2010. The overtime win was only the seventh all-time Zuzana Tomcikova (BSU) - Oct. 5 for the Beavers. BSU again went to overtime last Friday against Minnesota and suffered their first Erika Wheelhouse (BSU) - Oct. 12 loss of the season in an overtime. The Beavers are 1-1-2 this season in overtime. Individual Highs Kelly scored the first goal in BSU’s 2-1 victory over No. 2 Minnesota. Kelly was selected as the Points conference’s Newcomer of the Week for her performance. Kelly tallied the game-winning goal 6, Montana Vichorek against Minnesota State Saturday. She is currently second on the team in goals. (Oct. 21, 2011 vs. St. Cloud State) • Kristin Huber (Fr., F, Kelowna, British Columbia) has appeared in 11 games this season and tallied two vital assists against University of Maine Oct. 14. Huber added her third assist of the season on Kelly’s goal against Minnesota.
