  • The Relationship Between Fame and Fortune in Performance Related Careers with A
International Journal of Health and Economic Development, 6(2), 36-46, July 2020 36 The Relationship between Fame and Fortune in Performance Related Careers with a Shorter Life Expectancy due to Accidents, Addiction, Homicide and Suicide S. Eric Anderson, Ginny Sim La Sierra University, Riverside, California, USA [email protected] Abstract Around 92% of the US population dies from natural causes. However, only 49% of famous musician stars die from natural causes resulting in performance related careers being one of the most dangerous professions in the United States. According to this study, musicians were 20 times more likely to die from an addiction, four times more likely to die from an accident, six times more likely to die of homicide and four times more likely to die of suicide than the general population. Why do dangerous profession lists fail to include musicians in the high risk career list categories? It is not the profession that is dangerous, but primarily the personality type gravitating towards the profession that creates risk. Should certain personality types be directed to non-performance related careers? Probably not, since performing on stage may be a more effective intervention than psychiatric treatment. Keywords: Accidents, Alcohol, Anxiety, depression, homicide, musicians and suicide. Introduction Is there a relationship between fame in performance related careers with the shorter life expectancy due to accidents, drug overdose, homicide and suicide? The number of musicians, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon, Sid Vicious, Kurt Cobain, Amy International Journal of Health and Economic Development, 6(2), 36-46, July 2020 37 Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Prince who died of addiction is staggering.

  • Glen Campbell's Songs Soar As His Mind Fades
DECEMBER 2013/JANUARY 2014 BY SUSANNAH GORA Glen Campbell’s Songs Soar as His Mind Fades As Alzheimer’s disease takes its toll, the famed singer’s spirit stays strong. The music video for "Hey Little One" shows an older man strumming his guitar and singing a low, slow ballad. His voice has weathered with age, but we'd know it anywhere: it's the voice of "Wichita Lineman" and "Rhinestone Cowboy," a voice that has won five Grammys, sold 45 million records, and blended country music with pop before it was cool. It's the voice of Glen Campbell. Hearing him tell his stories in song has always been a powerful experience—maybe more so now, because Campbell has Alzheimer's disease (AD). NBC/NBCU Photo Bank/Getty Images In the video (for a track from Campbell's latest album, See You There), we also see Campbell's wife of more than 30 years, Kim. She holds her husband's hand as they look out at the ocean and the horizon together. It's a poignant reminder that AD changes the lives not only of those who have the illness, but also of those who love them. A Widespread Disease Campbell is one of 5 million Americans with AD, defined by the National Institutes of Health as "an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out simple tasks of daily living." (See "Alzheimer's Disease: The Basics" below.) AD begins with memory loss because the disease "starts in brain areas important for memory, such as the hippocampus," explains Janet Jankowiak, M.D., a geriatric neurologist and member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).

  • Beatles Cover Albums During the Beatle Period
Beatles Cover Albums during the Beatle Period As a companion to the Hollyridge Strings page, this page proposes to be a listing of (and commentary on) certain albums that were released in the United States between 1964 and April 1970. Every album in this listing has a title that indicates Beatles-related content and/or a cover that is a parody of a Beatles cover. In addition, the content of every album listed here is at least 50% Beatles-related (or, in the case of albums from 1964, "British"). Albums that are not included here include, for example, records named after a single Beatles song but which contain only a few Beatles songs: for example, Hey Jude, Hey Bing!, by Bing Crosby. 1964: Nineteen-sixty-four saw the first wave of Beatles cover albums. The earliest of these were released before the release of "Can't Buy Me Love." They tended to be quickly-recorded records designed to capitalize rapidly on the group's expanding success. Therefore, most of these albums are on small record labels, and the records themselves tended to be loaded with "filler." Possibly, the companies were not aware of the majority of Beatle product. Beattle Mash The Liverpool Kids Palace M-777 Side One Side Two 1. She Loves You 1. Thrill Me Baby 2. Why Don't You Set Me Free 2. I'm Lost Without You 3. Let Me Tell You 3. You Are the One 4. Take a Chance 4. Pea Jacket Hop 5. Swinging Papa 5. Japanese Beatles 6. Lookout for Charlie The label not only spells "Beatle" correctly but also lists the artist as "The Schoolboys." The liner notes show that this album was released before the Beatles' trip to America in February, 1964.
