He is also a fantastic example of God’s love in Jesus Christ. But the action that is said to have led to his martyrdom is fantastic and a real challenge to quite a few of our values and practices. In a time Matthew is a tax-collector and therefore hated by his Jewish people twice of persecution officers were sent to seize the treasurers of Laurence’s over: first because he is working for the Romans and secondly because church.
