Yeouido Saetgang Bridge (여의도 샛강 다리) is a 4.7 km long pedestrian bridge that connects Singil Station with Yeouido, the financial district of Seoul. Its unusual shape is said to resemble a pair of cranes with a stretched out “S” shape. The bridge spans both the expressway and Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park.

How is it symbolic of the 2013 Leadership Conference theme: The Yeouido Saetgang Bridge symbolizes one’s ca- reer path. The curved “S” shape of the bridge repre- sents the idea that one’s career path does not have to be straight and narrow. We should travel around, see what other options are out there and experience as many things as we can before we settle on a ca- reer. Like a pedestrian path, there are many ways to find our career. You can take it slow, some may walk and some may run, but they all end up at some point at the end of the bridge. No matter what speed or path you choose to take, always remember to strive to stand out and be memorable like the two strong support poles of this beautiful bridge. Congratulatory Message

It is a sincere pleasure to offer my congratulations to C3 Korean Canadian Society on the occasion of its 6th Annual Leadership Conference “Stand Out.”

This conference is an exciting educational opportunity for students and recent graduates facing the prospect of beginning their careers. It provides participants with an invaluable chance to network with potential mentors and with each other, allowing them to form beneficial relationships and develop common interests.

The inspirational message behind this year’s theme is one that is likely to resonate with many young people as they launch their careers and further their studies. The twenty-first century presents both incredible opportunities and unique challenges on the road to advancement. C3’s leadership conference will aid youth in taking advantage of the opportunities that surround them by equipping them with the necessary tools to develop their careers and navigate routes of advancement.

It is my hope that the tools that participants will be given through this conference will enable them to further pursue their hopes and dreams and to eventually “stand out” in their chosen fields.

I would like to thank C3 Society for hosting this conference and wish them the utmost success for what promises to be an inspiring and educational day for young Korean-Canadians.

March 9, 2013

Greetings from the Honourable Yonah Martin

As Honorary Patron and co-founding past Chair of C3, I am delighted to extend my warmest greetings to the delegates, mentors and organizers of the 6th annual C3 Leadership Conference.

This year’s conference “Stand Out” focuses on the inner strength, passion and drive that allow a person to break out of their comfort zone and stand out. As a community we must work together to provide the necessary resources and opportunities to our future generation to allow them to stand out.

Today you have the opportunity to share your ideas and skills with others who share in your passion. I encourage you to open your mind and to take in as much knowledge as you can from the speakers and workshops. This is an opportunity for you to see firsthand the path to success, the challenges you may face and the lessons you will learn. As future leaders your knowledge, hard work and determination will help strengthen your community and inspire those around you.

I would like to thank all of the mentors and speakers for inspiring our future generations with their stories, passion and experience. I would also like to acknowledge the dedication, leadership and hard work of the C3 Board of Directors and Conference Team who have made this conference possible.

On behalf of the Senate of Canada I wish you a wonderful conference and many more years of success.

Sincerely,

The Honourable Yonah Martin Deputy Government Whip

8 C3 Leadership Conference 2013 Welcome Letters Tina Chun Langford & Julianna Paik, Conference Co-Executive Directors

Dear C3 Leadership Conference Participants,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 6th annual C3 Korean Canadian Society Leadership Conference.

2013 is a landmark year for C3 Korean Canadian Society as it marks our 10th anniversary. Since inception, C3 Korean Canadian Society, through the unfaltering dedication of our directors and volunteers, has cultivated partnerships with community organizations to foster cultural understanding and leadership through service, education and mentorship. In addition, this year has also been designated as the Year of Korea in Canada, which recognizes and celebrates the 50th anniversary of Canada and Korea diplomatic relations, as well as the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. We are thrilled to be celebrating these milestones and are grateful to have you participate in this year's conference.

The theme of this year's conference is "Stand out". Traditionally, Asian culture has favored the virtues of conformity and self-effacing modesty rather than encouraging individuals of a community to pursue unconventional paths or to aspire to be conspicuous among their peers. The reality is, some of the most worthwhile pursuits are the most unconventional and in Canadian culture, it is by separating yourself from the masses that one can gain a professional advantage. This 2013 conference aims to inspire our delegates to depart from these traditional Asian influences and to embrace the concepts of making choices that are outside of your comfort zone and to gain the skills of self-promotion and self-assertion to stand out from a crowd.

An important part of every conference is the opportunity to renew friendships and to make new professional associations which will build your network. As in our previous leadership conferences, we have organized roundtable discussions and networking sessions with a diverse group of representatives and leaders from a variety of industries. We hope that you will take this opportunity to be inspired, network with other emerging leaders in the city and jump start your leadership and professional development.

We would like to thank all the delegates, volunteers, speakers and our generous sponsors who have made this year's conference possible. If you would like to get more involved in planning the 2014 C3 Leadership Conference or have suggestions on how to make the conference better, please feel free to contact any member of the C3 Leadership Conference committee team at any time.
