THESE CRIMINAL PETITIONS COMING ON FOR ORDERS THIS DAY, THE COURT MADE THE FOLLOWING : O R D E R The petitioners in these two petitions have sought for quashing of the proceedings in C.C.No.2008/2008 and C.C.No.1819/2008 on the file of the JMFC, Udupi, which cases have been registered for the offences u/ss.143, 147, 352, 324, 506 r/w.149 of IPC and 143, 147, 506, 341, 324 r/w.149 of IPC respectively. 2. The papers reveal that the occurrence has taken place in a clash that had taken place in an annual festival held in Sri Mahalingeshwara temple, Padubidri. Today the petitioners, who are the 7 complainants in the rival cases, have filed a joint memo supported with the affidavits of each of the person stating that they have settled the matter amicably between them at the instance of the well wishers and therefore, the entire proceedings initiated against them in the aforementioned cases be quashed. The joint memo that has been filed is supported with the affidavits of the parties duly attested by their respective counsels who also submitted that the parties have settled the matter between themselves. 3. Since the occurrence has taken place between the two groups in an annual festival of the temple and as they have settled the matter amicably and further as the offence complained off are also compoundable as on the date of occurrence, I do not find any justification to decline the request of the petitioners. Therefore, accepting the joint memo filed by the respective parties supported by the affidavits, the proceedings in both the cases i.e. C.C.No.2008/2008 and C.C.No.1819/2008 on the file of the JMFC, Udupi, is quashed. 8 With the above said observations, the petitions are disposed of. K. Puram, New Delhi-110066 FOREWORD Salinity is a significant challenge and poses risks to sustainable development of Coastal regions of India. If left unmanaged, salinity has serious implications for water quality, biodiversity, agricultural productivity, supply of water for critical human needs and industry and the longevity of infrastructure. The Coastal Salinity has become a persistent problem due to ingress of the sea water inland. This is the most significant environmental and economical challenge and needs immediate attention. The coastal areas are more susceptible as these are pockets of development in the country. Most of the trade happens in the coastal areas which lead to extensive migration in the coastal areas. This led to the depletion of the coastal fresh water resources. Digging more and more deeper wells has led to the ingress of sea water into the fresh water aquifers turning them saline. The rainfall patterns, water resources, geology/hydro-geology vary from region to region along the coastal belt.

  • District Disaster Management Plan- Udupi
DISTRICT DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN- UDUPI UDUPI DISTRICT 2015-16 -1- -2- Executive Summary The District Disaster Management Plan is a key part of an emergency management. It will play a significant role to address the unexpected disasters that occur in the district effectively. The information available in DDMP is valuable in terms of its use during disaster. Based on the history of various disasters that occur in the district, the plan has been so designed as an action plan rather than a resource book. Utmost attention has been paid to make it handy, precise rather than bulky one. This plan has been prepared which is based on the guidelines from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). While preparing this plan, most of the issues, relevant to crisis management, have been carefully dealt with. During the time of disaster there will be a delay before outside help arrives. At first, self-help is essential and depends on a prepared community which is alert and informed. Efforts have been made to collect and develop this plan to make it more applicable and effective to handle any type of disaster. The DDMP developed touch upon some significant issues like Incident Command System (ICS), In fact, the response mechanism, an important part of the plan is designed with the ICS. It is obvious that the ICS, a good model of crisis management has been included in the response part for the first time. It has been the most significant tool for the response manager to deal with the crisis within the limited period and to make optimum use of the available resources.

Field research was undertaken in conjunction with the use of multi-resolution remote sensing data to assess the changes in the land use with the implementation of a thermal power project. This paper focuses on a land use land cover changes that have occurred due to the establishment of a 1200 MW power plant at Padubidri in the coastal district of Udupi, Karnataka. The results indicate that the vegetation has decreased from 8.1 (2003) to 4.24% (2011) while the area under built-up has increased from 5.26 to 8.1%.
