Welcome to New York!

The Lizards made a last-minute swap with the Boston Cannons right before the MLL trade deadline on June 27, acquiring Will Manny and Joe LoCascio in exchange for Dave Lawson and Chris LaPierre. To say that both players performed well against the Ohio Machine on June 29 is an understatement. Manny would explode for a team-high five goals, including one late in the fourth quarter. However, the hero of the night was LoCascio, as the midfielder would net a two-point goal with 56 seconds remaining, giving the Lizards the 15-14 lead, and eventual win. Before the trade, Manny had been in the top 10 in scoring, having netted 18 goals, in addition to tallying 12 assists for the Cannons. LoCascio posted very respectable numbers in his breakout season for the Cannons, having scored 12 goals on the year.

Future on Faceoffs

The Lizards made eight selections in the 2017 MLL Collegiate Draft, but one player who is currently making an impact at the professional level is an undrafted free agent. Jon Garino, Jr., a faceoff specialist, was signed by New York in early June out of the University of , the reigning 2017 NCAA Champions. Garino won an astounding 62% of his faceoffs in his senior year and went 3-for-6 on faceoffs in his first career game on June 29 against the Ohio Machine. With faceoff legend and current Lizard Greg “Beast” Gurenlian retiring at the end of the 2017 campaign, Garino has a shot of taking over faceoff duties in the future for New York.

Week 12 Game Preview

Week 12 Preview: New York @ Charlotte

July 15, 2017

The New York Lizards look to make a late-season playoff push as they head to Charlotte and battle the Hounds.

Who: New York Lizards at Charlotte Hounds

When: Saturday, July 15, 2017. 7:00pm EST

Watch: Lax Sports Network (Live Feed on Twitter @LizardsLacrosse) and Twitter (MLL Game of the Week)

Week 12 Pregame Notes/Recap

The time is now for New York to start making their charge to the postseason. With four games remaining on the docket, the Lizards currently boast a 4-6 record after Thursday’s 16-14 loss to the Atlanta Blaze. A quick turnaround with a trip to the Queen City will be a determining factor in where New York goes from here. Paul Rabil, who now leads the team with 39 points on the year, had a pair of two-point goals in the opening quarter for the Lizards and led all players with a six-point effort. Rob Pannell added a hat trick and Will Manny had two goals for the hosts while Greg Gurenlian and Jon Garino combined to win 20-of-32 in the face-off circle. Despite the successes, a 4-1 fourth quarter tipped the scales in favor of Atlanta and the heat of the day wore on the Lizards as a late two-point try from Kyle Hartzell flew wide of the cage.

What to Look Out For

Thinking Ahead in the Standings

The standings can be misleading in a nine-team league, case in point the New York Lizards are not out of the hunt for the postseason yet despite a brief glance at the tale of the table. New York, at 4-6, is tied with Rochester and a win above Boston for the bottom of the MLL standings. However, the Lizards are a win behind Atlanta (5-6) for fifth place and a game behind Charlotte and Florida for the final postseason spaces as of now. A win over the Hounds vaults New York into the conversation for the final play-off berth as the season begins to draw to its ever-dramatic conclusion.
