Deveon Moss also intercepted two passes • 2 MSFA Coach of the Year Awards for the Bearcats. Lamont Benn scored the lone touchdown of the • 1 NAIA Coach of the Year (2002) game on a one-yard run in the fi rst quarter. Stephen Webb added two fi eld goals in the contest for McKendree. The 12 points scored by the Bearcats was the lowest point total in a victory for McKendree since the 2002 season. PUNT: 74 yards by Mark Albertini vs. St. Francis (Ind.), 1999 Since 1996, 14 players that have worn the Purple and Gold earned fi rst- or second-team NAIA All-America honors during their * -- Touchdown careers. Sixty-nine different Bearcat players earned fi rst-team All- Conference accolades in that span. While the McKendree football program has given its followers 2011 McKendree University Football Seniors plenty of memorable moments, the 2002 season may stand out as the most memorable to date. The Bearcats won a school-record 11 games on their way to a berth in the NAIA national semifi nals. McKendree led the nation in rushing offense with nearly 4,200 yards on the ground, while three Bearcat players earned NAIA All-America honors. For his part in leading the Bearcats through that memorable season, Poelker was selected as the 2002 NAIA Football Coach of the Year. While the numbers on the fi eld certainly stand out, the fi gures posted by the Bearcat players away from the gridiron are the ones that matter most to Poelker and his staff. The McKendree football program produced 25 different NAIA Scholar-Athletes, including a program-record seven in 2008. McKendree has had 72 Academic All-Conference honorees. They have fi ve children: Tim, Todd, Traci, Trent and Ty; and 18 grandchildren.
