Medieval castles, sunny rolling hills, isolated hill top towns, charming isolated rural homes, avenues of cypresses, and Daily Mileage - 38/50 miles golden wheat fields are just some of the elements of the fantastic and Riding Terrain - Rolling; harmonious landscapes of this area. There will be an optional loop ride along the Crete RAPOLANO SPA AND Senesi, the world’s most photographed panorama! For those who don’t SIENA want to ride, spend the morning at the Spa and natural hot spring San Giovanni in Rapolano Terme. Hot springs are naturally produced by the Daily Mileage - 30 miles emergence of geothermal heated groundwater from the earth’s crust. The Terme di San Giovanni is a natural terrace overlooking the sea of hills that Rolling; Riding Terrain - is the Crete Senesi, so while relaxing in the pools or having lunch, you can elevation gain 2,320 ft. enjoy a breathtaking view on this gorgeous landscape. Siena hasn’t changed much in appearance since the Middle Age and walking through its streets is like a travel back in time. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, our local guide and friend will take you for a tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and after you will have a dinner on your own in town. DAY 5 Highlights Today we’ll ride through the famous Chianti Classico region. We’ll ride CHIANTI CLASSICO along Castello di Brolio, built around 1,000 AD and owned since 1141 by the Ricasoli family, the oldest winery in Italy and the second oldest in the Daily Mileage - 46/56 miles world. Afterwards, we’ll stop for lunch in Gaiole in Chianti, the starting point Riding Terrain - Hilly; elevation of L’Eroica, and we’ll visit the vintage “White Roads” to browse a selection gain 2,992/3,628 ft. of artisanal products. In the late afternoon, we’ll return to Il Molinello for a three-hour hands-on cooking class. You’ll create a complete menu, from Hotel - See Day 1 appetizer to dessert, using only the freshest seasonal ingredients. Meals - B, D DAY 6 Highlights Our last ride will lead you to Montalcino, the city of the famous wine MONTALCINO Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. We will ride along the Pecorile road in the heart of Crete Senesi and the Asso Valley. Introduction and State of the Art1 2 The European Landscape Convention (ELC) defines landscape as “an area, as perceived by 3 people, whose character is the result of the action and interaction of natural and/or human 4 factors” and underlines that “a landscape forms a whole, whose natural and cultural components 5 are taken together, not separately” (Council of Europe, 2000). Piancornello is now owned and operated by Claudio Monaci and Silvia Batazzi. An 18th-century farmhouse anchors this organically-cultivated estate in the pristine nature of Montalcino, rubbing shoulders with centuries-old olive groves and Brunello vineyards. On their 10 hectares of vineyards, Piancornello cultivates predominantly Sangiovese vines with some Ciliegiolo. Their Sangiovese clones were chosen carefully to achieve low yields and looser bunches. Stay on the paved road at the “fork” and head up the hill. After 4 km, you’ll come to a second “fork” in the road (where the road bears to the left or turns slightly right to a gravel road). Continue to follow the brown sign for “borgo medievale di Castiglioncello del Trinoro” and turn right onto the gravel road.
