Tues Ship Model Society: Sail at Pond (Yachts, Fast Electric boats and Scale Models) 2nd Pond Start 9.00am Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, usually from about 9am and we tend to finish once the paddle boats start coming on. During the year we will be having yacht racing on occasional Thursday mornings. All are welcome to bring a boat down (it is a public pond)

Tues Friends of Woods: Footpath Group 2nd Woodland Discovery Centre, Abbey Lane 9.30am – 12noon The group meets every Tuesday morning until 30 November to carry out foot path maintenance, ditching, fencing, clearing, planting and many other tasks to help the rangers. Wed Friends of Bishop’s House: ‘Temples of Sanitation’ 3rd Bishop’s House, Norton Lees Lane 7.30pm Sanitation was the prime environmental concern of developing societies in the nineteenth century. The growth of conurbations, especially in London and the industrial north of and lowland Scotland, presented local and national government with urgent, desperate problems – water-supply and sewerage. Practical solutions took most of the nineteenth century to achieve, and in the process of engineering the healthy sanitary condition which later generations take for granted, the politicians, managers and designers of the nation’s water-supply and sewerage systems left a wealth of high-quality buildings, gigantic engineering works and attractive landscapes across the country. Sat Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust: Volunteer work day on Blacka Moor 6th Blacka Moor is on the A625 out of Sheffield a few hundred yards on the left before Fox House. 10am – 3pm Practical volunteer days at Blacka Moor are held on the first Saturday and third Thursday every month. Tasks vary from footpath improvements and access work, to habitat and vegetation management. Gloves, tools, and refreshments are provided, but wear suitable outdoor clothes and boots, and bring some lunch and drinking water if you're able to come for the whole day. Sat Friends of the Porter Valley: ‘Bat Walk’ 6th Forge Dam cafe. 6.00pm – 7.30pm Dr Nicky Rivers of the Wildlife Trust will lead this walk. We aim to prepare the ground and sow Yellow Rattle seeds in Beauchief Nature Park Orchard and Meadow, off Beauchief Drive. Yellow Rattle is an annual species which takes nutrient from grass roots, restricting their growth which allows other less dominant wild flower species to flourish. Refreshments provided.

Sat ‘Night Strider 2018’ 6th Get your glow on’ for Sheffield’s biggest and brightest night-time walking challenge - Night Strider. Take in some of the city’s finest views by moonlight, knowing that every step you take helps St Luke's to continue to support local people who need us. Sun Friends of Gillfield Wood: Small Mammal Trapping 7th Meet at the end of Totley Hall Lane 8.30am Join us to look at any small mammals that we have trapped over the previous night. These will be carefully examined, recorded and released into the surroundings that are familiar to them. It may be possible to photograph individuals. Good footwear and appropriate clothing should be worn.

Sat Frankenstein (1) 20th Samuel Worth Chapel, General Cemetery 1.15pm-1.45pm Performance students from Sheffield Hallam University perform excerpts from a new play called Mary Shelley and her Frankenstein. Look out for this pop-up performance in the atmospheric surroundings of the General Cemetery. 2.00pm – Midnight ‘I am by birth a Genevese…’ So begins Mary Shelley’s iconic, ground-breaking gothic novel. Join us for a reading of the text from beginning to end. Each chapter section will have a different reader. Listeners will be admitted as readers change.

It explores the idea of atheism in Mary Shelley’s novel, in which a man gives life to a new creature. Lisa Hopkins discusses Loudon’s novel which includes the reanimation of an Egyptian mummy and is a principled comment on Frankenstein.
