Luella High School Pride News

Week #30 Issued: March 25, 2019

We have completed 137 school days and have 40 school days remaining.

Spring Break will be April 1 – 5. Henry County Schools, including Luella High School, will be closed for the entire Spring Break. Students return to school on Monday, April 8.

REPORT CARDS I wanted to remind you that 3rd Nine Weeks Report Cards were distributed on Friday and are also available in the IC Parent/Student portal. Please review with your student all of her/his grades. If you have specific questions about a course grade, please contact the teacher or the grade level counselor to set up a parent/teacher conference.

COLLEGE FAIR On Thursday, March 28, we will sponsor a College Fair during our 5th period, which is the middle of the day and during all lunch periods. Many colleges will be represented, and all will have a display table and representative from the college to talk with our students. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students; I’ll give a report on how things went in the next Pride News.

RISING NINTH GRADE NIGHT (current 8th grade students) We will host a meeting for parents of rising ninth grade students on Thursday, March 28 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Current eighth grade students and their parents are invited to meet the counselor to the Class of 2023 and to learn some about the transition from eighth grade to ninth.

The Junior – Senior Prom will be on Saturday, March 30 at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Prom hours will be 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM. Pre-purchased tickets are required. Students must present official identification as they check-in at Prom; this includes LHS students and any dates who do not attend LHS.

PRIDE OF THE PRIDE Congratulations to both our Chorus and Band in their successful performances at their recent Large Group Performance Evaluations. Results for our choruses: Bella Voce (Beginning and Advanced choruses) and Cantate (the Advanced Chorus) both received Excellent ratings on the stage and Superior Ratings in Sight Reading. Results from our bands: Symphonic Band received superior and excellent ratings; the Wind Symphony received all superior ratings, achieving almost a perfect score.

The Junior Varsity Boys’ Soccer team played in the Trojan Cup tournament over the weekend in Lamar County. Congratulations to our players and coaches, the team won 2nd place in the tournament.

Go Lions!

SAFETY AND SECURITY UPDATES Our Mission: Luella High School will graduate each student: college, career and life ready.

As I shared last week in Pride News, at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, March 11, Dr. Davis provided the Board and those in the audience an update on the progress of improvements to the districtwide Safety and Security initiative, now titled SAFE HENRY.

Here is a link to the SAFE HENRY information, which is posted on our and the District’s website. The link includes a:  Video Update on Safety and Security from Dr. Davis,  Written summary of Securing Our Campuses information,  Bulleted list of items that are in place to order to Secure Our Future.

Let me encourage you to review all of these materials so that you can know exactly how proactive our school system continues to be on making safety and security its top priority. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.
