Fukuyama Uzumi-Gohan "Uzumi" is a long-running local cuisine of Fukuyama established in the Edo period. There are various opinions but Uzumi Gohan, also simply called "uzumi," is a rice dish of Fukuyama that is said to have its origins in the Edo period (1603-1868), when extravagant ingredients, such as chicken and shrimp, were forbidden due to frugality code imposed by the government.

Dishes Using a Red Sea Bream

Sea bream are an integral part of celebrations. Dishes made with sea bream from the Seto Inland Sea can be enjoyed at restaurants in Tomo. Such dishes include "tai somen" noodles, which features whole sea bream, and "tai-meshi" rice, which fishermen used to eat aboard their ships. Cuisine featuring other small fish besides sea bream is also delicious, such as fried fish and fish cake.

Fukuyama City Future Generation Energy Park

"Bingo Eco-Town" has many low-carbon and resource recycling facilities. Several solar power generation facilities have also been built here, including Fukuyama Photovoltaic Power Plant (mega solar power). There are also RDF (biomass) power generation and manufacturing facilities. The Fukuyama City Recycling Plaza serves as a base for environmental education.

Fukuyama Castle and Fukuyama Culture Zone Fukuyama Castle was built in 1619 when Katsunari Mizuno became lord of the Bingo domain. The Fushimi Yagura Turret and SujiganeGomon Gate are designated Important Cultural Properties. Inside the keep, personal effects and materials belonging to the lords of the castle, archaeological and historic items, and other collections are on exhibit. Various facilities, including an art museum, a history museum, and a literary museum are located within the vicinity, and it is a verdant space where citizens go to rest.

Tomonoura Tai-Ami Sightseeing A sightseeing ship is available to see up-close traditional fishing method that has lasted 380 years, in which a fleet of fishing boats catch the red sea bream. In 2015, the Tomonoura sea bream Shibriami fishing method was designated as an intangible folk cultural property by Fukuyama City.

Tomo-RyomaOmotenashi guide

Tomonoura is associated with Ryoma Sakamoto and is home to the Tomo-RyomaOmotenashi-tai (Tomo-Ryoma Hospitality Corps). You can get commemorative photographs taken with corps members who are dressed like Ryoma Sakamoto or ask them about sightseeing spots. If you need a rest, head to Café & Gallery Shion on the second floor of the ferry terminal.

Fukuyama Rose Park

The history of Fukuyama as a city of roses began when 1,000 roses were planted after the war to bring color to the desolate streets and restore peace in people's hearts. Today, there are around 5,500 roses of 280 different varieties in the park. The park is the main venue of the Fukuyama Rose Festival held every year in May and is a place where citizens come to rest.
