Brno Museum Night Saturday 14th May 2011 18.00–24.00 www.brnenskamuzejninoc.cz

Brno Museum Night

The Brno Museum Night, which takes place for the seventh time this year, is a trademark that needs no introduction. Almost everybody in Brno and its surroundings knows that it encompasses exhibition tours after dark, dozens of attractive exhibitions, creative and art workshops, lectures, concerts, theatre performances, food tasting, displays of traditional crafts, fashion shows and much more. A detailed list of all the events can be found in this programme brochure. You will notice that this year we have the as a guest joining the organizers. In the past the Brno Museum Night provided inspiration for spin-off events (e.g. The Night of the Churches), so it is possible that the theatre will capitalize on its participation by organizing a similar event of their own.

The institutions involved in the organization are very proud of the brand they have jointly created. And who would not be when it is one of the most popular museum nights with visitors in global terms! However, this excellent achievement of the Brno Museum Night also makes us concerned: Although one of the goals of the organizers is to show the visitors that they have something to offer the whole year round, almost every day, the number of regular visitors to museums and galleries tends to stagnate. Why? What can we do to entice you to come more often to exhibitions? What might deter you and what can we do to be more attractive? Answers to these questions are very important for us. As a result we decided this year to take advantage of the phenomenon of the Brno Museum Night to receive feedback to our work. How? Apart form a questionnaire that you can fill in either on paper (the questionnaire form is at the end of this brochure) or on our web pages, we will also provide you with space to voice your opinion directly in the locations that you will visit during the Museum Night. Another opportunity to share your comments is provided to facebook users: http://www.facebook.com/brnenskamuzejninoc. If you are the Gowala or Foursquare application users you can share your ideas by checking in. Instructions how to use this novel technology that is slowly seducing the masses can be found on the page entitled Brno Museum Night Check-in www.facebook.com/brnoc.

As you can see we are always on the lookout for something new to captivate you and the Brno Museum Night will resound to our call: “Talk to us. We care! Thanks to you we can be better.“

House of Arts, Malinovského náměstí 2

Exhibitions: The Exhibitor and His Audience. Pavel Karous, Michal Pěchouček, Pavel Sterec, Dušan Záhoranský The four invited artists may be considered a temporary group which, after intensive discussion, creates a scene composed of several specifically designed parts intended for the presentation of each other’s works of art. The sub-theme of the “exhibitor” is the viewer’s experience, his perception of art in exhibition spaces, his idea of form and genres in art. Rudolf Štursa This selection of works by the Brno photographer is conceived as a memento of his extensive lifelong work – covering the period from the end of the 1950s to the 1980s. The photographs, usually taken during the artist’s travels across Europe and other continents (undertaken as part of his work as a photographer for the Brno Trade Fair), present a humanistic subjective documentary with the ability to capture a typical feature and the atmosphere of a place or a moment.

Brno Museum Night Check-in

This year you can get involved in the Brno Museum Night through the online GPS-based games Foursquare and Gowalla. You can check in at each of the more than thirty places with exhibitions and cultural programmes. You will attach your impressions and photographs, see where your friends are at the moment and be awarded with points and badges.

Foursquare and Gowalla are social networks that are best suited for use with a mobile phone. In Brno several hundred people have already checked in. Above all, it is about having fun. Check them out for the first time during the Museum Night!

The Brno Museum Night Check-in also has a page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/brnoc. When you vote that you like it you will immediately learn about everything that’s new. It also contains a detailed description of how to use Foursquare and Gowalla.
