Educational Outreach Programs:

Faculty Coordinator, East St. Louis Action Research Project, 1990 - 2000, established, developed and served as the faculty director of this nationally and internationally recognized interdisciplinary community development assistance project which more than 5,000 UIUC students have participated in during the past twenty years. Coordinator, Summer Program for Minority Students in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning, 1991, designed the curriculum, led HBCU student recruitment efforts, organized campus-based student services and housing, and taught in this program to expose minority youth to career, academic and public service opportunities available in the design professions. Eight of the seventeen minority students who participated in this special program went on to complete graduate planning and design degrees, 1991. Spring Break Planners’ Tours, 1991 and 1993, organized and led two spring break "planners tours" for UIUC students of major planning and design projects in New York City. Twenty-two students participated in this field-based learning program in 1991 and 1993.
