Rs. 322 Cr Provided in 12 th Plan

March 7, 2013: Six airports of Gujarat will undergo major modernization during the 12 th five year plan period. A total outlay of Rs. 322 crores has been provided for upgrading Gujarat’s major airports viz. Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, , Surat and . Mr. K. C. Venugopal, the union minister of state for civil aviation informed Mr. Parimal Nathwani in rajya sabha in response to a question on the subject. A detailed statement placed by the Civil Aviation ministry on the table of the house reveal the data related to brief description of work, estimated cost and the outlay for 12 th five year plan. At Ahmedabad air-port, construction of a new control tower-cum-technical block will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs. 25 crore for which the equal outlay is earmarked in 12 th plan. There is also a provision to begin the work for new domestic terminal building at an estimated cost of Rs. 200 crore. However, only Rs. 15 crore’s outlay is provided in 12 th plan for the same. Apron adjoining the new terminal building at an estimated cost of Rs. ten crore, construction of a new cargo complex at an estimated cost of Rs. fourteen crore and strengthening and widening of runway for A-380 at a cost of Rs. 50 crore are some other major work to be done at Ahmedabad airport during 12 th plan. will get a new terminal building, a car-park as well as an apron at an estimated cost of Rs. 104 crore. While Rs. 4 crore has been provided in 12 th plan for the airport, only Rs. 30 crore is provided for new terminal building and car park for Bhavnagar during the plan period. In accordance to the minister’s statement, Rs. 41 crore is provided in 12 th plan for Jamnagar airport where a new terminal with car-park and an apron would come-up. The cost estimates for Jamnagar airport’s modernization is Rs. 60 crore out of which Rs. 54 crore would be for the new terminal building and car-park. Similarly, too will get a building with car-park and an apron at an estimated cost of Rs. 104 crore; but only Rs. 34 Crore have been provided in 12 th plan for the same. For , construction of parking bays, new taxi-track, extension of runway towards 04 side, construction of cargo complex and strengthening of runway are planned at total estimated cost of Rs. 110 crore. An Outlay of Rs. 31 crore is provided during the plan period. will have a new ATC tower-cum-technical block at estimated cost of Rs. 25 core and the runway will be extended from 7500 feet to 9000 feet at a cost of Rs. nine crore. Full provision of the amount for Vadodara airport’s work is made in the plan.
