We have designed this special 2-day itinerary especially for families who have never visited this wonderful city. It’s based on our experience of visiting with our kids and trying out different places. Susan & Paulo What to Visit This is our pick of what to do with kids for the 2 days, they are all super easy to get to, tried and tested by families, and we guarantee everyone will enjoy them!

DAY 1

St George’s Castle in district.Spend the morning here, there are great views of the city and river. This is the best place to have a picnic in ! You can travel to near the castle on the 28 or 12 trams or the 737 bus. But you will still have a steep climb so we advise taking a tuk tuk or a taxi to the Castle entrance, it is easier walking down.

Top tip: there is a separate counter for families at the entrance.

Don’t miss: the Camera obscura - it provides 360 degree views of Lisbon.

Lisbon has an extensive variety of animals from Africa, Asia and South America. There is a cable car that runs around the zoo so you can get a bird’s eye view from above. The zoo is big and there is plenty of space to walk around.

Top tip: the picnic area has tables, benches and lots of shadow for the perfect family meal or you can also enjoy family friendly meals in the restaurant.

DAY 2 Expo Park (Parque das Nações)

This large area has numerous family friendly activities and we would recommend spending a day here. It’s a ten minute walk from the metro station () and it’s well signposted. At the park you will be able to visit:

Lisbon - the largest indoor in , which is well worth a visit, spend at least 2 hours here. The family ticket admits 2 adults and 2 kids. Pavilion of Knowledge (Pavilhão de Conhecimento) – a science/technology hub with fun exhibitions and events. The main goal is to provide visitors with an interactive experience. There are fun activities such as construction and crafting and cycling a bicycle on a high wire. Suitable for children aged 3-15. It’s located just across the road from the Oceanarium. The staff are very friendly and kids won’t want to leave! Cable Car Ride– the cable car (Telecabine) runs from one end of the Expo park to the other. It lasts about 8-12 minutes. Each cable car has a capacity for 8 passengers. Kids will love this ride and parents get great views of the park, the Tagus River and Vasco de Gama Bridge.

Top tip: take the kids for a treat in the food hall at the Vasco de Gama shopping centre.

Don’t miss: don’t miss the Pavilion of knowledge.

Where to Eat

These are our absolute favourite places to eat with kids in Lisbon, we’ve always had wonderful meals there.

Italian Burger and Lobster HouseVasco de Gama Shopping Centre (opposite the Oriente, metro station) on the 3rd floor. There are plenty of other choices here too. Ideal if you are visiting the Expo Park on day 2 of your itinerary.

There are also lots of restaurants in the park itself, not far from the aquarium. If you decide to stay for dinner, then stroll along the park and choose one where you can sit outside and get a view of the Tagus River and Vasco de Gama Bridge, lovely at twilight.

Time Out Market(Mercado da Ribeira). A food court where you can sample all types of the best of Portuguese food as well as Asian, burgers, pizzas etc in short everything. You must get there early to get your table. It is self- service, but get your table first.
